Tree of Life Discovery School

About Our Educators

  • Q. Why did you become an Educator?

I wanted to become a MyVillage Educator because I love helping children create a real love for learning, especially in their first sensitive and important years of life. I also think it’s a way for me to contribute to my community in a meaningful way, and help improve the quality of education in our country.
  • Q. What's your favorite part about being an Educator?

My favorite part about being an early childhood educator is getting to be a part of the inquisitive mind of a young child. The average four-year-old asks 300 questions a day! I love having the opportunity to help them explore, create and learn to find those answers.
  • Q. Do you have any special experience parents should know about?

I have a bachelor’s degree in merchandising and am currently working toward my associate's degree in early childhood education with a desire to someday have a master's degree in childhood development. I previously taught at a Montessori preschool for almost two years, and have also completed a Montessori Assistant Teacher Training at the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies.
  • Q. Anything else parents should know about you or your family?

I have two children of my own: a fun-loving seven-year-old daughter who loves to create and all things fashion, and I just had a baby boy in August.

About Our School

  • Q. What's your early childhood education philosophy?

At Tree of Life, we believe that children should be allowed to fully enjoy these important years of childhood by making mud pies, jumping in rain puddles and learning about the natural world out their backdoor. In our nature school, we know that it takes all kinds of weather to make our beautiful Earth grow, and we live by the wildschooling philosophy "there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.'' We hope to cultivate positive learning experiences and promote healthy living by connecting children to nature. Tree of Life Discovery School is always child-led exploration and nature play because we believe there is no limit to what a child can learn when placed in a positive and nurturing learning environment that allows for freedom and independence within boundaries.
  • Q. What's your school set-up like?

Nature is our classroom! We are fortunate to have an abundance of open space, trails, ponds, and rivers to help guide children in safe nature exploration through activities like fishing, bird watching, hiking, and plant identification. We also have a small home-based classroom space that is created to spark the interest of each child and serves as a home base for further learning activities. As a nod to my previous Montessori training, children will find some classic Montessori materials as well.
  • Q. What snacks & meals do you provide?

I provide a healthy and nutritious morning snack and afternoon snack.
  • Q. Anything else parents should know?

We treat our classroom as a tight community and will learn to have respect for ourselves, respect for each other and respect for our environment through many lessons on grace and courtesy.

About Our Parent Relationships

  • Q. What do you expect from me as a parent?

I expect to create loving and caring relationships with parents that are respectful and always to keep the best interest of the child in mind. These relationships are only possible through open communication and equal participation from parents and teachers in the education and growth of their children.
  • Q. Do you encourage visits from parents?

I fully encourage visits from parents during circle time, outdoor play or lunch when it will not disrupt the child’s work time or nap schedule.
