A real gem in London, which seems to be thriving long after the bowling fad of a couple of years back and the rise of various clone bowing venues in London.
Dragging the kids down for a bowl and a bite in the diner we stumbled into a Swing Dancing class of 100 people next to the lanes. Even those there for the bowling got into the dancing. Fantastic fun. The bar service was ok, but perhaps they should focus a little more on the customers than restocking fridges. Coffee excellent, which was a surprise.
A plus of the location is the free parking on Sunday’s right at the front door, all pretty relaxing. Post bowling and lunch we walked over to the Coram Fields, about 5 minutes walk away, well worth a visit,
I can see why they dont need to promote the bloomsbury lanes it has an enviable reputation that no PR spin can create. D???cor is 50s and low key ??? none of that happy days or hard rock memorabilia, which would have been a mistake.Food wise the pizzas at eight pounds are good value as is a cocktail for five pounds. Id recommend the lanes to anyone looking for a relaxed bowl, drink or even dancing.
A basement bar, tucked away on a backstreet of Bloomsbury, with only a tiny sign as a clue to what you???ll find inside; Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes clearly aren???t into self-promotion. And why should they? The bowling lanes have been going for a good couple of years now and in that time have found no real need to advertise themselves - word of mouth does all the work for them. And right now, everybody is talking about Bloomsbury Bowling???s latest venture, their brand new Kingpin Suite. The suite boasts a huge karaoke room, mini crazy golf course, arcade games and five snazzy new bowling lanes. And of course, no bowling alley would be complete without a hot tub. And this one comes with changing rooms and robes for all those who fancy taking a dip. The suite has only been open a few weeks, but already it???s attracted a fair few corporate events. It seems businesses from around the capital have been keen to enjoy the 2000ft of space, private cocktail staff, themed buffet and perhaps even the odd meeting in the tub. But you don???t need to organise a night of small talk with HR to visit the new suite as the Kingpin also plays host to different club nights each week. Recently, there was an Anchorman-themed night which included a jazz flautist and Ron Burgundy look-alike in the hot tub. And it seems there are many more imaginative and entertaining nights set to come. For a peek at what the Kingpin Suite has to offer, visit www.kingpinsuite.com
The place has novelty value and the live music was good. I agree the bar staff can be quite rude and don't eat there! The waiting staff don't know what they are doing and the prices are way too much for a bit of chicken or 3 big chips. However, they do make good cocktails.
???36 per lane per hour seems a bit expensive.
