Expecting the worst ... especially after scandal with Trading Standards from the Borough that banged the place to rights for mis-advertising the menu as "organic". They have now substituted "Julie's" for the offending organic ie. lamb, chicken ... however surprisingly "Julie" done good and it was delicious, followed by a proper crumble with decent custard - totally excellent in a very non-Heston Blumenthal way ... although enthusiastic exploration of the cocktail menu resulted in a eye-watering bill.
The Globe is the stuff of legend! I don't believe it's changed in 20 years ... or even been cleaned come to that. Back then there were real shabeens in Notting Hill and it wasn't that extraordinary - but now it's a real throw-back. It's tough to remember real facts or proper detail when it comes to this place. As any regular will know it's visited at a stage in the evening when memories become hazy ... did that actually happen?? ... or did I dream it?? In the case of The Globe - likelihood is, it did really happen! It's that kind of a place.
Very cosy and candlelit vibe to this place. It's family run although I'm not sure I notice many of the male side of the family - not that I'm complaining! This place ticks a lot of boxes: friendly, atmospheric, authentic, good value.
