The Dolphin is not the pritiest bar in Southampton but it's incredibly friendly. The food offer is basic but cheap and the service although untrained and a little scrappy around the edges is friendly. I would recomend this bar fo cheap food and ok beer. But it's not a night out and if you want to impress friends this bar is not ideal. I have heard on the grapevine that Accor may be buying it. If they do you can expect a reasonable refir.
The Wellington Arms is a great little locals bar with some interesting atributes. It has a great little comunity atmosphere and a wide range of traditional beers. The landlord (Bob) Is a realy nice guy and has a no nonesence attitude (If you bahave like an idiot your out).
One of the things I like about this bar is that it sells my favourite german beers. It's also less than 2 mins from my flat.
I would not call this a young persons bar but the welcome is universal as long as you behave like a real person.
