Unpretentious? The building itself may be, but as for the clientele...! Pretentious doesn't beging to describe many of them. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind popping in here for a drink, and as a cinema I do like this place as an alternative to horrible multiplexes. However, there is something intensely annoying for me about sitting on a table next to somebody that is trying very hard to look like a sensitive intellectual, by reading a Kafka book, or something by Nietzsche whilst sipping at a cappucino....or sitting next to a couple of 'media' or film students, discussing in very lofty tones the Bolivian animated film they have just been to see. If however this sounds like your sort of thing, you will just love Broadway. Unfortunately if I stay for more than one drink in there, the urge to punch somebody starts to rise quite rapidly... I must stress though that as a cinema, I can't fault the place.
I wrote a review on here for this place a couple of years ago now. I'm a fair man, and thought I better come back following my recent experiences. I don't know if my first time a few years ago was an 'off' night, but I have been twice recently and found this place to be fantastic. Excellent value for money, great quality food, some of the most tender meat i've had in indian restaurants....and very generous portions. No measly rice servings here, you get more than you could ever eat, combined with the large main dish portions. My only grumble (a very small one) is that they are a little conservative with the spiciness of their dishes. I have asked a couple of times for my dish to be made hotter, but it hasn't quite done the trick. Still, the flavours of the dishes were great, portion sizes fantastic, good quality all round. Not a budget curry house, but definitely value for money! I am a convert.
