The All Seeing Eye (The Hardcore Techno Version)12th September ?? 23rd November 2008--------------------------------------------------------Anyone who saw the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind could not help but be struck by its visual wizardry and high concept storyline. Now its co-writers, artist Pierre Bismuth and director Michel Gondry, have revisited this winning combination with their latest collaboration, The All Seeing Eye.Bismuth had the initial idea for Eternal Sunshine when, inspired by a friend??s recent break-up, he wondered what would happen if it were possible to erase every memory of a relationship that had ended. This unique video installation takes this premise to a fascinating new level. A projector in the centre of the room slowly revolves to reveal an apartment replete with all manner of upmarket furnishings. At each rotation, we begin to notice that certain items have disappeared. This is almost imperceptible at first when objects that were merely cluttering up the place vanish. However, it soon becomes apparent that everything must go. Furniture is removed, bookshelves are emptied, rugs and even a staircase go missing. The view from each window becomes sparser at every turn. Eventually, even doorways and windows disappear until we are left sitting in the middle of a bare, white room. The only remaining item is a Brillo box. The original movie plays on a television in a corner of the room throughout, providing a subtle narrative to the unfolding scene. It is an unnerving experience but beautifully executed. Being placed so completely in the midst of the action means that you see only what the artist wants you to. The result is a disorientating but profoundly affecting look at the consequences of loss. Whether you??re a fan of the film, an art-lover or just in search of something a bit different, the All Seeing Eye is definitely worth seeking out.
