Joe Moskow (Reverend & The Makers) and Louise Prey (Ping Pong Bitches) Live DJ set…. Plus support bands

Perhaps it’s the sophisticated adult in me or I’m just turning into my dad, but why do so many live venues look like they’re half finished? Sure the bar is colourful and the artwork smart - but ripped sofas, beer-covered tables and a gut-wrenching toilet don’t quite match the four quid pints and cocktails on offer. Saying that, I’ve seen a lot worse and by the looks of it no one cares; the place is packed.
With six unsigned bands and famous DJs spinning ‘til the early hours, there’s no denying that this event was worth every shekel. Best of the bunch was The Capers; a retro-influenced three piece from Romford who offered an upbeat, catchy set to get the punters going. As for Funky Loving Spunk Monks – the name is far more inventive than their sound. A shame.
Soon after midnight we were treated to DJ sets from members of Reverend & The Makers and Ping Pong Bitches. The sweaty crowd was lagered up and looking good on the dancefloor, strutting to some fine indie, electro and old skool beats. An interesting end to the night.
Dirty South has attracted some big names to play over the coming months. The interior of the venue may seem confused, but their desire to put Lewisham on the map certainly isn’t.
