Sorry, last review should have been for LA REGATTA
I have been going to La Regatta for about 6 years now, and have enjoyed every visit. I even had my wedding reception there back in 2003. I have always found the staff very helpful and attentive. The food is always fantastic, and there is now quite an extensive tapas menu. To me, even now, its like nipping to Spain for the evening. Definitely recommended
Despite a change of menu (and a rising of expected prices) the food was generous and delicious, the service was very good and it had a very pleasant atmosphere! Would definitely recommend - even though it's a bit more expensive. The "Banana Flambe" was a real delight!
Having just read the previous review let me warn anyone who likes good food and service about going to this restaurant. The service is awful, 25 minutes to get our drinks at the table which included a warm bottle of rose, when we complained they put it in an ice bucket and suggested we wait a while before drinking it! Rushed to finish as they wanted to clear the table, A sort of modern day Italian Fawlty Towers, miserable chief waiter and dippy waiters and waitresses. Menu comes in 2 ways, traditional standard italian pizza, pasta and al la carte. There were 10 of us fortunatley 9 ordered from the cheaper menu. Pizza was hopeless about 3/4 inch thick stodgy dough and underdone topping, greasy lasagne. if the one al la carte is any thing to go by then leave well alone "boil in the bag" lamb shank. Half cooked starters, ceaser salad was ok.like the previous review it was not even busy.Just to give the place a balanced view if you are not in the least bit interested in food, its a laugh, people come for the disco that goes on until late and it does have some atmosphere!
Whilst it is hard to judge a restaurant on just the one visit, below is a short description of my La Margherita visit. The rude and arrogant attitude of the bar staff on arrival at 9pm and a "Maitre d'" who forgot us for 30 minutes at the bar, whilst standing next to us, should have put us off staying. When we were eventually assigned a table it became obvious that they were struggling to cope - but were not even half full. Tables were served ahead of us and diners were finishing before we complained about the lengthy hour wait for our food. We were pacified slightly by a complimentary bottle of below average house rose before the food arrived at 11pm.The liver was poor quality, the pancetta under cooked and the sauce it came in was totally unmentioned on the menu. Thankfully, it did a good job of disguising the liver.Other dishes were dry and presentation was weak.We left without tipping and one of our party was shoved in the back by the waiting staff on the way out.Overall, one of the worst dining experiences of my life.
