Fantastic Saag dishes, definately worth a visit, its one of the best Indian restaurants in Southampton,
Very, very expensive, with tiny portions and rude staff. I have been here twice now and on both occasions have been overcharged on drinks, there are far better alternatives in Southampton for a third of the price.
2 starters, 2 mains and 2 cokes for 50 pounds! The starters were tiny, the biryani was 14 pounds and had 3 pieces of lamb. The poppadoms were .95p on the menu but we were charged 3 pounds. When I asked if rice came with the main course at 11 pounds the staff were rude and showed that they did not want to know about it. And then to add insult to it all they went ahead and tipped themselves 10% @ nearly 5 pounds without even asking. The place was empty which was not surprising. To me it looks like a restaurant that is going down the tubes, they are cutting corners with the portions and if you don't like it don't come back. It's all about money. I could have got that same meal for 35 - 40 pounds in any other restaurant. I will not go back.
We really enjoyed our lunch here (Sept 06), the buffet has been replaced with 'cook to order' as much as you like (so long as you dont over order and waste food - else they may charge). Food quality was very good indeed. Recommend.
The surroundings are very nice indeed, without being overly lavish. More importantly, the variety and quality of food offered is superb - I particularly enjoyed the lamb and vegetarian dishes, but the overall standard is excellent across the board. The service is very good and staff are polite and professional. Overall I would heartily recommend Poppadom Express to anyone wanting a good meal out in Southampton.
Price was great for take-away (40% off) and this was our first Indian since moving from London. Food itself (Chicken tikka masala and chicken korma) were a disappointment given the restaurant's impression. Wont be going again I'm afraid, food just doesn't taste authentic....?!!
"A Southampton success story, Poppadom Express now has several branches across the UK , and continues to serve authentic regional Indian food in stylish surroundings. They claim to be able to make 1000 different cocktails, although testing them on this would be difficult. Vegetarian dishes are a speciality."
