Darren Robert Anderton

Anderton in the Major League? - June 04
It seems that Darren Anderton has his eye on Major League Soccer.

The former England International wants to move to the US now that his contract with Tottenham Hotspurs has come to an end. He told ESPN "It’s something that has always appealed to me.I’m at the point in my career where I’m looking for something different since I’m not at Tottenham any more." Anderton, who has played for Spurs since 1992, has been kept up to date on the improvements in MLS by American team mate Kasey Keller and has been impressed by the improvements to the league in recent years. "We’ve talked about it and he’s been helpful, especially with the national side doing so well. The league just keeps on improving plus the facilities are excellent."

The premier league footballer said that living in America really appeals to him and that he has his eye on playing for the MetroStars in New York or for D.C. He also thinks that the calendar would do him good - MLS play April to November while over here the cold season has made it difficult for Anderton to recover from troublesome injuries. However, the move is not in the bag as the footballer is also in talks with former club Portsmouth and first division West Ham, who recently lost their promotion place in the play off finals. Anderton says "I’m looking over all of my options at the moment. It’s an important decision. The American option is something that, the more I think about it the more I like it.I’d be very interested if an opportunity should arise."

Anderton’s surprise axing - May 04
Darren Anderton has said that he is surprised that Spurs have decided not to renew his contract.

The footballer has said he finds it strange that manager David Pleat has chosen to play him at every opportunity this season but now has decided not to renew Anderton’s contract. He says "the club has made a lot of mistakes and I think getting rid of me is another one". However, Anderton says that this will not be the end of his footballing career.

Anderton to Portsmouth? - April 04

Portsmouth FC have played down reports that Darren Anderton will be signing for them.

Anderton’s contract with Spurs comes to an end this summer. Spurs have already said this contract will not be renewed but Portsmouth say they do not have the money to consider any new signings especially before they know whether they are to stay in the premiership. Rumour has it that Darren will be on the next plane to Qatar instead.
