I would just like to add a comment ....yes Don Christie Records was in Ladypool Road before moving to the shop near the Rag Market in Gloucester Street and the Carrabean Take-away next door was owned by Don Christie Records.

The owner of both shops was a school friend of mine his real name was David McGynn he was well respected in the Reggae music world and supported up and coming Bands in and around Birmingham alot of customers wouldnt probably know Dave lost a leg in an accident whilst driving his Lambretta Scooter near our school which was Wheelers Lane Secondary School Kings Heath but he overcame this to open Don Christie Records.

I understand that Dave sold Don Christie Records to set up a coffee making machine business in USA yes coffee to Americans a new challenge.

Unfortunately Dave died whilst in USA he had a congenital heart defect since birth that no one was aware least himself he will be fondly remembered by all his customers and especially myself R.I.P Dave

When i was about 13 i lived on ladypool Rd (No 300) gettin into music i went to Don Christie to buy some sounds, maybe a bit of Tamla or Rock or pop, the guy behind the counter told me i hadn't got enough ££ for that stuff but nearly all Reggae LPs(Trojan) were 19/6d and i was just starstruck with all the variety if reggae albums on show! Long story short......i bought Reggae Chartbusters vol2 fell in love with Reggae music, influenced many of my mates at Moseley Grammar School!! and there a whole new genre of Reggae?Soulboys were born, i'm 51 years old now and still love my music all styles but Reggae closest to my soul, DON CHRISTIE WHEREVER YOU ARE.......YOU SHINED THE LIGHT AND MY PATHWAY TO MUSIC WAS ENRICHED. So where else were the likes of UB40 influenced. DC has a lot to answer for, God rest his soul x
