having read the other comments I have to say I am on the fence. The Spurstowe has a really nice feel, it is roomy enough to find a space on a Sunday and then gradually colonise the area as friends arrive. The bar staff are always really chipper and helpful. I have had some fantastic and memorable meals there a few years back, the langoustine were delicious. But the last time (about a month ago) I had the Sunday Roast it was supremely disappointing, especially as I had friends visiting and had built the excitement about traditional British sunday pub fare. We had the lamb and the pork, both were very thin cut, grizzly and chewy bits of pallid meat. The roast tatties were unappealingly soft and tepid, as were most the veg, and the gravy, of which there was only a trace was watering and flavourless. I just felt let down and embarrassed at £14, and ended picking up the tab. I expressed my disappointment to the manager, and although he was apologetic, the tone was overwhelmingly- well, that's your opinion and your entitled to our opinion. Thinking of a place to spend a Sunday, to settle in and hide from the cold, then the Spurstowe is always my first thought, but I'll think again before eating there again, or at least check out other peoples food before I order.
