Be Love Manchester

editor@manchester

I've been trying to get to grips with the music uploader. After swearing, weeping and screeching, I've managed to get some songs on there! The cunning plan is to try and use this page to promote up and coming Manchester bands. My latest discovery is an Aussie/Manchester band called Turrentine Jones. If there’s anything you want to add, or if you agree/ disagree with anything please don’t be shy. Let it all out. Especially if you disagree. I especially like it when people disagree.
One final thing. There's a twitter thing underneath here and in my videos I'm trying to use the power of Youtube to showcase new Manchester bands. Have a look and a listen. Are there any bands I should know about?
Have fun.

'Mc Donald's, Mc Donald's Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut!' That was the song me and a group of unfortunate backpackers sung while stranded in the Australian Outback, miles from anywhere, with steam belching from the bonnet of our car, waiting for a lift, as delirium set in. We were being baked alive in the heat and trying frantically not to think of Mad Aussie Serial Killers.
I thought I'd share that little tale with you, as it explains why I didn't go into a McDonald's for years. It's also marginally more interesting than eating there.
McDonald's is a known quantity. Love it or hate it, you know what you're going to get. I had a quarter pounder with fries. It was actually quite nice. Oh, and there's these little nutritional info bites on all the little boxes. God bless Morgan Spurlock.
Oh, and about the nightmare Outback incident. We got rescued about an hour after we crashed. The guy wasn't a serial killer either, but a bloody good bloke.

I want to make this clear. I like this place.

I like the way it has raised itself phoenix-like from the ashes of Revise. I like the wacky promotional work, and I like the buzz in this place. It’s a great place to meet with people, and I’ve always enjoyed myself.

This is a very popular place, whether you go at weekend, or during the week, or if you take part in the ‘World Famous’ quiz.

But it’s no different from Revise. Apart from a lick of paint and some wacky lettering, the layout is similar, the prices are similar, and the drinks are similar. No, I take that back, there’s a slightly larger range. But it’s still very similar.

If you’re starting to foam at the mouth with rage, please don’t. The venue was always a good one. All it needed was good promotion. It now has it, and it’s good to see it full of people enjoying good times.

Leo's Italian Restaurant

It’s a rather expensive but good Italian restaurant which serves a standard range of Italian favourites.

It's popular because they are very good at what they do; the Risotto for example was to die for, and even though I was overstuffed by the time dessert came, I couldn't resist spooning another mouthful into my already engorged stomach! It’s also popular because it's a very good place to check out at lunchtime or midweek. That’s when they have special offers.

One word of warning; the dishes appear smaller than they really are. Don’t order too much, or you’ll be so bloated that like me, you’ll be physically unable to get to your feet!

Situated next door to Asian Fusion, it is sometimes thought of as its poor cousin, which is a shame, because it’s a perfectly good Indian restaurant.

The restaurant has been running since 1964, and it runs on the principle of ‘if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it’. They know what people want, and they provide it. There’s a standard range of dishes, all of which are excellent. All the Indian restaurant clichés are there, right down to the cheesy Bangra music.

I like places like this, and I think its following of loyal patrons would agree. The range of crowd pleasing dishes and reassuring Indian restaurant atmosphere means that it will probably be in business for some time yet.

This is has been described as one of the best restaurants outside the Curry Mile, and I can only join in with the chorus of praise.

The name acknowledges the type of Indian cooking which has permeated every corner of the country. You can order the standard range of dishes if you want to, but its strength is in the original range of good quality dishes. Everyone has their favourites, but I’ve tried something new every time I’ve come in here and never been disappointed.

The prices are standard and the service is good, but it’s the food that really sells the place. If you live in Chorlton you’ll probably already know about this place. If you’re new in town, then check this place out!

Is Staying In the new Going Out? Are Take Aways are the new Eating In?

Take Aways are fantastic for two reasons. They are great to fall into after a good night out. Like many things, they seem like a good idea at the time, but the day after, you ask yourself: Did I really do that? Did I really eat that? Did I really sleep with that? There’s something praiseworthy about these places, which I just can’t explain. I always find myself drawn to a certain Kebab House in the Northern Quarter. It’s a grotty dive, and you can easily believe there are t… Continue

Why donate a Kidney to see a Live Headline Act?

Local live music is great. When my carers let me out of Shady Pines Rest home, there's nothing I like better than to check out the latest up and coming acts, and I'm sure you feel the same. I mean, why donate a kidney down the black market in Longsight to get a ticket for a headline act, when there's plenty of good quality acts to be seen for the price of a round of drinks? Manchester used to be famous for its home grown talent. I'm 99, and so I remember the old days having it in Blackpool wit… Continue

In Praise of Manchester's Suburbs (And a Curse on its Buses)

Manchester’s public transport system can be summed up in one word. It rhymes with ‘polite’, but it sure ain’t polite! It makes it hard for people like yours truly to travel around Manchester and check out what’s happening unless you use a car. Which means you have to be...sober. But the God-awful state of public transport here is actually a good thing. It’s allowed Manchester’s suburbs and satellite towns to develop their own distinct character and scene. Many have become the stuff of local le… Continue

Chorlton Green Festival Preview

The Chorlton Green Festival promises to be a village fate with a difference. It will celebrate Chorlton at its artiest, and the emphasis is on green, organic, and local. Local artists will have a chance to show off their wares. There will also be music from local bands and films from local directors, as well as plenty of eco related happenings, including workshops, (Wheelie Bin Decorating, anyone?), and plenty of activities for children. The organic theme will be carried through to the food an… Continue

Macbeth! Ten fascinating facts you may not know..

1.We all know that it's considered unlucky to mention the name of the play inside a theatre. It's often referred to as 'The Scottish Play', and all sorts of weird and wonderful rituals are enacted whenever the name 'Macbeth' is mentioned, which have been sent up from Blackadder to The Simpsons. 2.When it was first performed it was rumoured the witchcraft scenes were so accurate that witches cursed the play, and its been considered unlucky ever since. 3.At roughly half the size of Hamlet, Macbe… Continue

hey, didn't realise you'd already written a review for Macbeth! Anyway, i agree with some of your reservations: it was very over the top in places and the Obama reference was totally unnecessary (as was the nudity...)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've had some problems that have kept me away from the computer.

Thanks for your thoughts on form 696, and I totally agree with you. It's crazy, and will suck king kong sized monkey bollocks if they choose to go forward with it.!

Hope everything is ok with you.
