Closed at present, changing hands on Friday 20/02/09.for the better I hope
This is probally the best Wethspoons I have been in,But this one impressed me because of the service and the atmosphere,The staff have manners, and the customers fairly friendly to a new face, but this could be due to the fact that most of them seemed to be having a couple of drinks on there way home, and not the usual all day drinkers that I have often seen in pubs that open at 9 am,it was very busy and there was a lot of thier cheap meals being sold, and a lot of thier Green King ale @ 99p a pint,I did note that they had a cider on pump which is 7.5 ABV, thats not for me, however I enjoyed my stay,it as disabled toilets and baby changing facilities, but you have to ask for the key,and as you enter the bar there is a step which seems rather silly,
T his used to be a fairly good locals bar,but someone choose to mend it before it got broken,Now I really wouldnt bother to visit it again,When I recently visited it on a Sunday evening around 9 pm.I was there only customer, and sadly the barmaid had to stop reading her paper to serve me,I was nice to see London Pride and ESB pumps but thats all as there was no real ale available, the seating and furniture is very low,but it does have to nice open fires and was warm.but my stay was short, the seemed to be lots of lager pumps.and a large range of bottled beers but thats all ,
Thank whoever that this pub is there, I was begining to suffer from Wetherspoons depression.due to the holiday period, and not being sure which pub is open and when, friends convinced me to go Wetherspoons,But last night I kicked the habit and found there is still a pub in Stokey, with a great atmosphere and very polite staff, and some really nice background music, and Imust not forget even though its a while since I have been there,it still has some chatty customers.and I felt very at ease there.I was a bit put back by the charming lady by the door, then I realised this lady was not a bouncer, but taking food orders, well I had been sampling a few vodas here and there,And although my stay was shorter than I wanted I did make my mind up that I was going to spend New Years eve in this pub,and the barman assured me there would be no entry charge, unlike some others in Stokey.all in all a great bar,
I dont normally have anything good to say about Wetherspoons pubs, except they are cheap and serve a purpose,But I must admit that there selection of real ales at this pub is very good. I tried a few on my recent visit and the Exmas bitter was really a great drink, its a pity its only there for a short while.and the Riendeer although slightly weaker was pleasant,And for once I stood in amazement when this very nice looking barmaid who was on her own, with about 4 people waiting, appologised for the delay in serving me,I was about to ask her if this was a Wetherspoons,as normally there is no such thing as my favorite words like hello, please and thank you,in this pub,or any of the others I have visited in this chain.and to stop me in my tracks she actually new the price of my drink without going to the till,so I guess im commenting more on this lady than the pub,but it does go to show that someone with manners can even keep me in this pub,I was tempted to have a meal there but I no longer find thier menu cheap, and there was the normal crowd who had probally been in since 9am,
