Kelly's Cellars is rapidly becoming one of my favourite bars of all time! A truly individual venue that has some awesome eccentric regulars, great traditional live music, a fantastic atmosphere and is crammed into a delightfully ancient building. A brilliant pub for both a quiet drink of an afternoon or a raucous night of craic. Brave the dark alley that leads you to it; you will be pleasantly surprised.
Oh, and any pub that has been visited by the great Leonard Cohen (as proved by the signed photograph above the bar!) is good enough for me!
A very well turned out bar full of young professionals enjoying a nice bottle of vino after work. Nice decor, but I must admit is pretty much in the same as any other trendy wine bar in the city, although for a bar of it's genre it is very attitude free and rather relaxed.
The Garrick looks fantastic, and serves excellent food, but upon visiting for a cheeky early-afternoon pint with some old school friends, I found the locals extremley rude and hostile. I think it was more that we had interupted their afternoon drinking and weren't regulars. I certainly hope they weren't narrow-minded enough for it to be because we had English accents.
However, I have heard great things about this little Victorian bar, so I will not abandon it just yet. A vast selection of beers, lagers, and ciders together with a wide array of whiskeys, wines and other spirits make this a place I will visit again.
This week saw me loose my Spring & Airbrake cherry, and what better night to do it at than Shag!?
A great night packed with fun people, cheap drinks and a fantastic mash of music! I will be suffering through many more Wednesday hangovers in the coming weeks!
Top work, Shag!
Spring & Airbrake is a copper-bottomed corker of a night out, ideal for those midweek binges where you have an almost primal desire for strong liquor and loud music. Tuesday night was an excellent example of this as I headed down with some mates from across the water.
Packed to the rafters with fun loving party goers across a broad age spectrum, and playing an outstanding mix of music, the sweatbox that was S&A ticked all my boxes. Drinks were cheap, except Absinthe and whiskey (which is fair enough!) and the people were a friendly lot, too. Very, very hot though.
Comes highly recommended!
