The Moustache Bar is Dalston's worst-kept secret. But it is well worth a visit, even if it has lost some of it's mystique. A basement bar, it features 'wacky' decor and comfy sofas, residing on which you will probably find some trendy youngster (possibly with a fake/real moustache). It's quite small, but the drinks are cheap, the music is banging and the little smoking area is a nice hangout.
Unlike most Stoke Newington inhabitants, I cannot sing the praises of The Blue Legume. Despite the lovely interior, and it's evident popularity, the food is simply not up to scratch. The much-lauded breakfasts I find over-rated. I had an Eggs Benedict which was smothered in a bitter, unpleasant hollandaise, and the service was quite slow and unhelpful.
Good food and plenty of charm is what characterised my first visit to this Stoke Newington Italian pizzeria. The restaurant was buzzing on a Saturday night, and the air was filled with garlic and laughter.
Although the pre-meal nibbles left something to be desired, the pizzas were delicious. It was the ideal venue for a group meal, with the enormous pizzas perfect for sharing. This is a lovely, relaxed eaterie and good value.
