Its not really my thing, The Westbury. Its just a little too contrived in a "its just been cleaned up” way. The punters are generally 20 and 30 somethings wishing they were in Hoxton but don't have the time to travel half way across London, though they have the cash. It gets really packed at the weekend with the various DJ nights but for me just give me a band, dodgy toilets and a no fills attitude please.
The Macbeth, is one of the Hoxton music scene's top live music venues. Although a bit hard to find, the Macbeth has a laid back vibe, some fantastic Victorian tiling and reasonbly priced beer. A tip, get there early as the queue can be very long as most nights are packed.
Breathtaking is too small a word for the ceiling, the ornate gilded reliefs and friezes. The effect when entering make for a stunning and spectacle interior. The bar midweek is surprisingly relaxed, Chesterton’s and a roaring fire set a great but subdued atmosphere.
The Good Ship is a live music venue come nightclub on the Kilburn High Road. It’s a great place to catch a band most nights. A large bare space that looks like it designed just before the new fad for putting new with old bric a brac took hold, its minimalist and now a little tatty but catch it on the right night and its great.
They sell a decent range of beers and the bar staff are friendly enough. At the weekend its super late closing time of 4pm mean I’ve left the worst for wear more often then I care to mention.
The Hawley Arms has a reputation being full of celeb spotters and trendy indie types and its desevered. It is an OK pub though. It's not a plastic place but it has charm and character.
The Hawley serves a good selection of drinks and the best bit is you can buy a sweets from behind the bar. With a rep it has, it has to play good music and it hits the mark here as you’d expect.
