Have been here a couple of times and would have to say found it to be pretty hellish. As a few people have said, feels pretty uncomfortable in there. Vibe is not very friendly. And afterhours is full of people who should have gone home hours ago! (i wish i had too once i was in!)
Strange cage-like bit where you pay your money in too from what i remember!
There's plenty of youtube videos out there if you search for them too of all the trouble that seems to kick off round that area. Came across one once where a car was mounting the pavement and trying to run people over, again and again and again - AVOID!
This is my new favourite pub in Birmingham.
Its tucked away next to the Alexander Theatre and its a proper old boozer!
A massive selection of drinks (incl Sailor Jerrys) and really friendly bar staff.
Then you've got the smaller bar at the back which is a little gem, with artwork on the walls provided by them lot depicting a scene similar to the bayeaux tapestry if the Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters was involved, in Birmingham. And DJ's in here every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and also a good food menu from what i hear.
Plus theres a really good room upstairs which is now being used for live gigs on fridays and saturdays and club shows too later in the year.
I can definitely see a good portion of my year in this pub!
Essentially, its like the Rainbow, but more comfortable and warmer!
Wicked place - best pub in Birmingham. If you're looking for an alternative to the drab, generic, faceless chain pubs in the city then The Rainbow is the place to go. Great music, friendly faces, outdoor spaces too. What more do you want.
Love the place! Been going there for about 10 years now and would have to say i've had my best Birmingham clubbing experiencdes there without a doubt.
Erol Alkan, Radio Soulwax, Simian Mobile Disco, DJ Food, DJ Yoda, Scratch Perverts, DJ Mehdi, Evil Nine, Felix Da Housecat - i've had some great times there.
Yes....the drinks aren't cheap, but they're not ridiculous either. The toilets are sometimes a bit messy but i've never felt the need to complain. And as far as the cost to get in, you get what you pay for.
As for whoever it was that said it was chavvy?? what night did you go on? I've always found it to be a really good atmosphere down there with like minded music lovers. Its that little bit out of the way for most of your chavs.
Definitely worth checking out as like someone else mentioned, its completely unique, never been to anywhere else in the country like it.
