Doherty to help drug addicts? - Mar 12 2008
Pete Doherty is apparently going to work with young heroin addicts for a new TV show.

The Babyshambles singer - who has hit the headlines thanks to his own battle to kick his drug habit - will meet young users to see the reality for himself, and will try to turn them on the straight and narrow for a new Channel 4 show, according to the Daily Star.

Doherty, 28, will visit two of the toughest council estates in the north of England, Manchester's Langley estate in Middleton and Sheffield's Manor Park, to see the destructive effect heroin addiction has upon young people's lives.

The former Libertine will be hoping to rehabilitate the addicts with music therapy sessions and a trip to the local pie and pasty factory.

Doherty will also try and persuade the drug users to take part in the rock opera he is currently writing with his former bandmate Carl Barat, 29.

Doherty named NME Hero of the Year - Feb 28 2008

Arctic Monkeys and Manic Street Preachers were lauded at the Shockwaves NME Awards but it was Pete Doherty who emerged as the unlikely hero.

NME readers voted Babyshambles singer Doherty as their Hero of the Year.

Arctic Monkeys continued their winning streak with a trio of awards - Best British Band, Best Track for Fluorescent Adolescence and Best Video for Teddy Picker.

It follows their double win at last week’s Brits, where they memorably turned up dressed as country gents and proceeded to enjoy the free bar. This time they wore normal clothes and frontman Alex Turner said: "...we’re going to attempt to behave like the gentlemen that we were dressed as last week."

The Awards were held at the IndigO2 venue inside London’s O2 Arena.

Brits winner Kate Nash beat Amy Winehouse to the Best Solo Artist award. And there was further bad news for Winehouse - in the same week that she reportedly met bosses about launching her own clothes line, the singer took NME’s Worst Dressed title.

Manic Street Preachers were honoured with the Godlike Genius award, which was presented by fellow Welshman, boxer Joe Calzaghe. The Welsh band’s career has spanned more than 25 years and survived the loss of guitarist Richey Edwards, who disappeared in 1995.

The Manics closed the show with hits including Design For Life.

Other performers included the Klaxons and Billy Bragg, who duetted with Kate Nash.

Pete the supermodel? - Feb 20 2008
Pete Doherty has apparently been acting like a supermodel.

The Babyshambles singer’s management are reported to have rejected a £5,000 offer for a one-day fashion shoot - insisting Pete’s "bare minimum" fee was a whopping £30,000.

The reported stratospheric demand would catapult the singer into the league of supermodel Linda Evangelista, who once famously said she didn’t wake up for less than 10,000 dollars a day.

Fashion website Lastseason.com first tendered £5,000 for the former drug addict’s services, The Sun reports - but an email reply from his management apparently read: "I think you are batting substantially below the mark."

"The fee on this would be a bare minimum of £30,000 before we even begin to discuss anything."

Founder of Lastseason Stefano Passantino told the paper: "When they said £30,000 I nearly had a heart attack. Who does this bloke think he is, Claudia Schiffer?

Biography

It’s hard to believe that just a couple of years ago we didn’t even know who Pete Doherty was now that not a day goes by when another entry to the PD catalogue of disasters is published in the tabloids.

A long and drawn out battle with drugs, an especially fiery relationship with Croydon’s favourite daughter and any number of bust ups and arrests has made the singer/songwriter one of Britain’s most recognisable faces (all be it a screwed up, sweaty zombie face).

Born on March 12 1979 in Hexham, Northumberland and living at various times in Liverpool, Shepherd’s Bush, Coventry, Dorset, Cyprus and Russia, Pete Doherty first came to the public’s attention as one half of the singing songwriting duo who fronted Britain’s must see band, The Libertines, who kick started the country’s new garage rock scene in 2002/03.

Debauched backstage shenanigans and frantic but brilliant shows saw The Libertines hit the headlines time and time again and their debut album, Up The Bracket, shot up the charts. However, the band’s success was to be short lived and numerous problems, between Pete and the rest of the band (specifically with best friend Carl Barat - the pair met when they became flatmates in Stoke Newington) saw them part ways but not before Pete hit the headlines for drink and drug problems which caused him to steal from his bandmates to feed his habit.

It was around this time that Lisa Moorish gave birth to Doherty’s child, Astile but, rather than settling down Pete carried on taking heroin, selling his ’My Drug Hell’ stories to any and every tabloid to pay for his out of control habit before being put in to several rehab clinics (including a Thai monastery), none of which have changed his ways.

Nonetheless he has managed to forge a career on his own, first working with Wolfman on For Lovers then forming Babyshambles, initially as a way to make money for.you guessed it! Now trying to get clean with the aid of Naltroxene after an arrest for assault, which resulted in some jail time as well as a curfew and constant supervision Pete is reportedly set to marry supermodel Kate Moss.
