After their fast-paced dance, judge Arlene Phillips said their performance "was like a canary and a crow flying in from Stanstead, not Cuba".
Fellow expert Craig Revel Horwood said that while "the energy was phenomenal" their dance was "unfocused and all over the place".
They found themselves in the bottom two with EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo, in yet another surprise result for the BBC One ballroom show.
After the couples performed again, Craig, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman all opted to save Matt, with only Arlene in Penny’s corner.
A tearful Penny said: "It’s been the best time of my life. I couldn’t have done any of it without Ian. It has been truly the biggest honour in the world, and I wouldn’t change a single thing."
Ian paid tribute to his partner, saying: "This girl wasn’t a dancer, but she worked hard, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner. She’s been fantastic.

Penny Lancaster-Stewart started off life as a model/photographer, but it was her marriage to rocker Rod Stewart that propelled her into the world of celebrity.
Lancaster took up performing arts at a young age, originally in dance and then later in aerobics, qualifying as a fitness trainer in her early twenties. It was during her training that she was ’spotted’ by a talent scout and encouraged to join the world of modelling and as a result took up photography.
In 1998 she got the opportunity to meet Rod Stewart who offered to let her take photos of his tour, and the rest is history. At the time the coupling sparked a lot of media interest as Stewart had only just separated from Rachel Hunter, his wife and mother of two of his children. In 2005 Lancaster and Stewart got engaged at the top to the Eiffel Tower and later that year their first child was born. The couple eventually wed in 2007 in Portofino Italy.
Lancaster’s modelling career reached its peak with a contract at Ultimo, as the face of their lingerie brand. The partnership lasted two years until Lancaster was eventually dropped in favour of Rod’s ex-wife Hunter. Following her deal with Ultimio she’s created a fitness DVD and worked on various modelling and photography contracts.
