Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan apparently had a vicious showdown at the Grammys.

The hotel heiress and the Mean Girls actress exchanged bitter insults when they bumped into each other at the pre-awards party at Los Angeles’ Avalon nightclub, according to the Daily Mirror.

The bitter rivals - who has both dated Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos - reportedly came to blows over top music producer Timbaland.

A source claimed: "Both of them want to work with Timbaland to revive their faltering music careers.

"Both saw the party as an ideal way of getting him on side - but they didn’t count on the other being there."

After exchanging death stares with Paris, Lindsay, 21, is said to have clambered over a sofa to get close to the hip-hop star. Meanwhile, Paris, 26, reportedly hurdled a barrier to approach Timbaland, but he is said to have shunned both girls.

The Hottie And The Nottie director Tom Putnam has said fans will see a "side of Paris Hilton we haven’t seen before" in the flick.

Tom is hoping the It girl - who plays ’hottie’ Christabel - will draw in the audiences to see his romantic comedy.

"We were very excited to put her in the film because everyone has an opinion about her, positive or negative. It’s part of the fun of any movie, the discovery of what someone can do. Paris is somebody that everyone has an opinion about and as a director you can’t ask for much more than that," he said.

At the film’s Hollywood premiere, internet gossip king Perez Hilton said the world’s fascination with Paris was infectious.

"Not everybody loves Paris Hilton, but everybody talks about her, we’re fascinated by her. There’s a sort of aspirational thing with Paris where you want to live her life for a day or two. Everyone would like to be rich and famous," he said.

But Paris’s mum Kathy Hilton struggled to put into words what we can expect from the socialite’s first major movie role, saying: "The [cast] enjoyed working together so much that you’re going to see... it’s just Paris."

The blonde heiress, who is seen posing in her underwear on the front cover of the latest issue of 944 magazine, claims that her busy lifestyle is all to do with hard graft, reports The Sun.

"It makes me angry because people don’t know the real me, and I’m a very hard worker," the paper quoted her as saying.

"I travel around the world constantly promoting my projects and endorsing products.

"Yes, I do get paid to go to parties - in fact I’m the person who started the whole trend of paid appearances.

"But when you see me at a party, I’m always working or promoting something, even if it’s as simple as wearing my clothing line for the pictures."
