Orlando Bloom
- Profession: Actor
- Place/Date of Birth: Canterbury, 13 January 1977
"I’m just part of what will be a great company of actors," he said. "I just really wanted to have a very organic experience. I didn’t want to feel like I was in a star vehicle yet by any means."
Fans camp out all day for Pirates - May 21 2007
Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom received a near-hysterical reception from pirate fans at the world premiere of Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End.
Die-hard fans queued outside Disneyland overnight to bag themselves a prime spot on the red carpet. However they, and the world’s media, had a long wait on their hands to catch a glimpse Captain Jack Sparrow.
Due to the sheer number of press interviews the actors had to give, it wasn’t until almost four hours into the premiere that Orlando, then finally Johnny made it around to where fans were waiting, and by which time the atmosphere was feverish.
Orlando abandoned interviews to sign autographs and hug fans, reducing several girls to tears.
Despite being told to hurry through the actor insisted on greeting those who had waited patiently, and as fans around the park chanted his name, he even stopped to wave to those who he couldn’t get near.
Then, shortly after, Johnny - the man everyone had been waiting for - headed straight over to greet the crowds.
Dressed in jeans and a leather jacket, the actor decided he’d had his fix of giving interviews and would speak only to fans.
Hiding under his chin length mop of brown hair he turned his back to TV cameras, and it was only after much protesting and chants from fans waiting behind the crews that he briefly turned his head around to wave.
If the support at the premiere is any judge, the third instalment of the blockbuster trilogy should draw the crowds.
Orlando’s ’difficult’ year - May 18 2007
Orlando Bloom has apparently opened up about his split from Kate Bosworth last year, insisting they are still "good friends".
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star says he and Kate found it hard being apart when they were shooting films - and struggled with the public nature of their relationship, reports the Daily Mirror.
"We’re still very good friends. But it had been a difficult year for us both. Kate was on one side of the world, in Australia shooting Superman, and I was on the other, in the Bahamas for Pirates. So we tried giving each other a bit of time out. And, well, there were difficulties," he’s quoted by the paper as saying.
"In our case it was extremely unfortunate that everything was on public display. I have always tried to keep my cards close to my chest - while wearing my heart on my sleeve - but it is a really hard thing to do."
But there is good news for Orlando’s female fans - he hasn’t ruled out another relationship and even admits he’d like to settle down.
"I am a romantic and I like the idea of being in love, of thinking about that person all day long," he added.
"I’d like to start a family one day and live more of a real existence instead of being all over the place."

Struggling through many classes at school, it took several years for Orlando to be diagnosed as dyslexic but made the most of his time at St Edmund’s School by taking part in theatre projects. He joined the National Youth Theatre in London at sixteen where he gained a scholarship to work with the British American Drama Academy, while also taking bit parts in Casualty, Midsomer Murders and Smack the Pony. It was around this time that he picked up his first movie role, alongside Jude Law and Stephen Fry in Wilde.
In 1998 Orlando attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he fell from a roof terrace, breaking his back and facing permanent paralysis. However he quickly recovered and almost immediately was spotted by director Peter Jackson, who signed him up for the part of Legolas in the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. Since this Orlando has gone stratospheric, appearing in numerous films including Pirates of the Caribbean, The Calcium Kid, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. He now lives between London and LA and has an on/off relationship with fellow actor Kate Bosworth.
