The Smile songstress has sparked engagement rumours after she was spotted sporting what looked like a diamond ring, reports The Sun.

The paper says Lily, 22 - who recently revealed she is expecting her first baby with the Chemical Brothers rocker - was shopping in the capital when she was seen wearing a band on her ring finger.

Earlier this week the pop star said she was "thrilled" to be expecting a baby with Ed, 37, who she started dating in September.

A spokesman for Lily said: "I am pleased to confirm that Lily Allen and her boyfriend, Ed Simons, are expecting their first child.

"However, as the pregnancy is at a very, very early stage, the couple ask that you respect their privacy, as the health of Lily and their child is their paramount concern. As the pregnancy is at such an early stage, the couple will be making no further comment but they are obviously both thrilled by the news."

"Lily’s new album will be released as planned next year."

News of the chart-topper’s pregnancy was first revealed in today’s (Wednesday) edition of The Sun newspaper.

Lily began seeing Simons after splitting from long-term boyfriend Seb Chew. The couple are planning to move into a £700,000 home in Queens Park, north-west London, next month.

BBC Three said the singer’s new TV show, Lily Allen And Friends, will go ahead as planned. Filming is likely to begin in February.

"We have heard the news and we are thrilled for her," a BBC Three spokeswoman said.

Mark and Lily ’make up’ - Dec 16 2007

Mark Ronson and Lily Allen have apparently kissed and made up - after weeks of reported feuding.

The producer helped Lily create her 2006 debut album Alright, Still - and they had stopped talking.

Mark told the Daily Mirror: "We are friends again - we’ve made up and everything is cool between us. I was hanging out with her on Tuesday night at Bungalow 8 and she was very nice."

The estrangement began when Lily didn’t show up at Mark’s BBC Electric Proms performance in October. She then ignored his calls.

However, it seems that Mark is now hopful he will work on the Smile singer’s forthcoming outing - and is keen to join her onstage at the Brits.

"I’m blackmailing her into performing at the Brits with me," he laughed. "I say to her ’I knew you when’ so she can’t get out of it."

Biography

As the daughter of Britpop icon Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, Lily Allen (born May 2 1985) was destined to be famous.  Born in Hammersmith, London, she moved around a lot as a child, living in Ireland’s Co Kildare before eventually settling in Islington.

With early dreams of pop stardom Lily was signed to Warner Bros in 2002 thanks, in no small part, to her father.  However the partnership was short lived and in 2005 she signed to the lesser known Regal.  Despite reported pressure to release pop songs she instead decided to release her tracks for free download on MySpace.com.  It was through the website that she found fame, becoming a true internet star before even releasing a single.  The buzz created though resulted in a rush release of LDN on limited edition 7" in early 2005.

In 2006 Lily released her debut album Alright, Still to critical and public acclaim, reaching number 2 in the UK charts.  She also released Smile, the track which finally launched her in to the public’s conciousness.  This was followed by a full re-release of LDN.
