Slimline Winslet - 09/01/03
Kate Winslet was once as well known for her voluptuous curves as her Oscar-nominated acting roles. However in the latest issue of GQ magazine there really isn’t much left of her.

She sports a sleek new hairstyle accentuating previously unseen cheekbones, noticeably smaller breasts, a pert bottom, slender legs and an implausible washboard stomach.

How? When? Well that’s easy, according to GQ editor Dylan Jones the shots were "digitally manipulated" after they had been taken, making her look more slender than she really is. He said: "Kate saw the pictures before publication and loved them. Various parts have been improved, including her stomach and legs."

Ms Winslet’s New York publicist, Robert Garlock, confirmed the actress had approved the photos before publication. He said he was aware the photographs had been altered but said they only made the actress look more fantastic than she does at the moment. "She has lost quite a bit of weight," said Garlock.

Kate Winslet is Europe’s favourite actress - 09/12/02
Kate Winslet took the people’s choice prize as best actress, voted for by moviegoers, for her role in Iris at the European Film Awards held in Rome.

In a taped acceptance speech, Winslet told guests at the Teatro dell’Opera: "It’s such an honour to be voted for by people who go to the movies.

"I’m deeply flattered to receive this award for my performance in Iris and I feel deeply blessed to have worked with Judi Dench. If it wasn’t for her performance, I think mine may have been lost."

She paid tribute to her co-star, Dame Judi Dench, whom she beat to the prize. Winslet also thanked the director of Iris Sir Richard Eyre for bringing out her performance.

Kate Winslet to be a Vogue cover girl - 19/11/02

Kate Winslet has been named as the cover girl for British Vogues January edition. The Islington based star was chosen for her ’recognition factor’ among other reasons.

Alexanda Shulma, the editor of British Vogue, has said that ’Vogue has always featured personalities on its covers’ as a retort to critics that have suggested that the magazine should not have TV or film cover stars, but be strictly fashion.

Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on October 05, 1975 in Reading UK. Kate is not the only actor in the Winslet family. Both of her sisters, Anna and Beth and her father and grandparents are or have worked as actors. Kate also has a younger brother Joss. Kate at the age 11 in 1986 began taking acting lessons in Maidenhead and she secured her first acting role in a Sugar Puffs advert dancing with the Honey Monster.

She continued in a performing arts school and followed graduation with roles in the British television drama Shrinks (1988), followed by appearances in the television series Casualty (1989), Dark Season (1991), Get Back (1992), and Anglo-Saxon Attitudes (1993) and theatrical roles including Pandora in the musical Adrian Mole, Wendy in Peter Pan, Sarah in A Game of Soldier, and Geraldine in What the Butler Saw.

Before she was a big movie star, Kate worked in a deli. She was actually in the middle of making a pastrami sandwich when she received the call that she’d been cast in the film "Heavenly Creatures." Kate Winslet got worldwide recognition when she was cast alongside side Leonardo Di Caprio to play ill fated lovers on board the Titanic, the film was a huge commercial success and won 11 Academy Awards.

She dated writer/actor Stephen Tredre for 4 and 1/2 years. The couple remained close even after their breakup. Sadly, Stephen died in 1997 after he lost his battle with cancer. Kate missed the U.S. premiere of "Titanic" to sing at his funeral in England. Kate also had a brief fling with fellow actor Rufus Sewell, however that all changed when Kate met and fell in love with Jim Threapleton, The couple met in 1997 on the set of "Hideous Kinky," where Jim was 3rd Assistant Director.

Kate married Jim Threapleton in 1998 they were married at the Anglican All Saints’ Church in Reading, near the Winslet family home, on November 22, 1998. Kate wore a beautiful white gown designed by Alexander McQueen, and the church was decorated with white and yellow roses. The ceremony was planned in absolute secrecy - not even the 170 guests knew the exact location! (This was in case any invitations happened to stray.)

They were told only to meet the carriages that would transport them to the church. The press didn’t get wind of the wedding until the very last minute, and they arrived just in time to catch some footage of Kate and Jim leaving the church. The wedding was followed by a reception at the Crooked Billet Pub, where the guests feasted on bangers and mash, a favourite dish of Kate’s. Later, the newlyweds headed off to their honeymoon on Scotland’s West Coast.

On October 12, 2000, Kate and Jim welcomed their first child, a little girl named Mia!
