Kate Nash’s music rant - Mar 18 2008
Kate Nash has apparently his out at the music industry in a foul-mouth rant.
The Foundations singer claimed the music industry was full of "w******" and that she deserved to beat Leona Lewis to the Best Female Brit Award last month, according to The Sun.
The 20-year-old singer was speaking at the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, where she had been watching her boyfriend Ryan Jarman perfrom with The Cribs.
Kate told the newspaper: "I’ve just been hanging out with Ryan and watched The Cribs.
"I threw some beer over some of the crowd at The Cribs gig over here the other day. I thought it was going to be amazing - but I got there and the band were amazing but the crowd were s***. It was just industry w****** with their clipboards.
"I threw a beer and it went over all of these industry people and they got upset. I went to a party and it was full of horrible stick-thin people. We did my new song in one live take. There are so many people in this industry who make you angry. It makes you want to scream."
The singer was also quoted as saying: "Leona seems like a really nice girl. But I think it was really good I won it because I started this myself. I’m not a manufactured, size zero pop artist who is going to bring out her own perfume and clothes range."
Kate to headline Bestival - Mar 6 2008
Kate Nash is set to headline this year’s Bestival.
The event, curated by Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank, had already confirmed Black Kids and Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong, but now welcomes the Brit Award winner onto the main stage for the Sunday headline slot.
Rob said: "One of my most memorable moments from Bestival 2007 was seeing Kate Nash being lovingly pelted with lemons on the main stage when she sung her line about being bitter.
"I was the first person to play her on Radio One and am a massive fan, so it’s made my day to land her for the Sunday night grand finale at Camp Bestival."
New York producer and DJ Hercules And Love Affair will also play at the gig, as well as fellow decks master DJ Yoda.
Rob added: "Hercules And Love Affair has been one of those acts that I’ve been banging on about for months ’cos their record is just one of the best electronic disco records ever made... well in the last decade anyway! Prepare to dance!"
New confirmations also include Dub Pistols Sound System, Kid Carpet, The Nextmen, Ross Allen, Taiwah, Emiliana Torrini, Rod Thomas and Cut A Shine.
The event takes place at Lulworth Castle, Dorset, between July 18 and 20.

No one had heard of Nash before 2007, now she’s the biggest brightest button in the box with what seems like a permanent place on the BBC play list.
Born to English and Irish parents, Nash grew up in Harrow and first became interested in music during her childhood when she learned to play the piano. She attended the BRIT school for performing arts and technology where she studied theatre, after an unsuccessful audition at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School she took solace in song writing.
MySpace signalled her catapult to fame when Lily Allen claimed that she was the ‘next big thing’, the affirmation by Allen certainly bolstered her fan base but also sparked comparisons between the two young songsters, which Nash seemed less than happy about.
Her debut single ‘Caroline’s a Victim/Birds’ was released via an independent label in February 2007, with a limited distribution of 1000 copies. In March 2007 she signed to Polydor, her second single ‘Foundations’ was released in June and reached number two in the UK charts. Due to this unprecedented success her debut album was brought forward – almost unheard of.
