BIOGRAPHY
Jeremy Brett (1933-1995) was a versatile British actor with a distinguished 40-year career legacy in many diverse roles, but it was his portraiture as the consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, that bought him international fame.

He was one of those rare actors able to accomplish what only a very few could do. He took on the very difficult task of playing a character that had been defined in virtually every fans heart and mind fifty years ago by Basil Rathbone, that of Sherlock Holmes. Over the years a number of actors have played the part with little success, but Jeremy Brett was able to take on that role and redefine it in a way that made it his and his alone.

Born Peter Jeremy William Huggins on 3 November 1933, Berkswell Grange (family estate), Berkswell Near Coventry, Warwickshire, he is the son of Henry William Huggins (military Colonel. DSO,MC, DL) and Elizabeth Edith Cadbury (Butler) Huggins. Jeremy attended Eton and the Central School of Speech and Drama.

He was married twice, first to Anna Massey in 1958. They divorced in 1962 and had a son David Williams Raymond. In 1978 Jeremy went on to marry his second wife Joan Wilson. She died of cancer on July 4th, 1985.

Jeremy never remarried and was living in Clapham around the Clapham Common area until the time of his passing on September 12th, 1995.
