Tribute update - June 04
An online petition has been created by Kelley Sweat, the head of the Jeremy Brett Memorial Group, to find a fitting tribute to the late Sherlock Holmes actor in Clapham.

The ideas raised are suitably sympathetic to local residents and businesses, as well as being a lasting tribute to the man who loved living in Clapham. If you would like to read more and show your support, then click here.

Jeremy Brett 2005 tribute - April 04
An idea for a tribute to late Clapham resident, actor Jeremy Brett, is an area within the Common, a garden named for the man who loved living here.

A friend of Jeremy’s, Kelley Sweat, is the head of the Jeremy Brett Memorial Group, and they have been thinking of ideas to make a tribute to Jeremy. She writes ’Just wanted to share this development with you regarding the 2005 tribute to Jeremy Brett. Jeremy was once quoted as saying that he and his second wife Joan were "too late for children." Instead, they had planned to create an immense garden; but they could never agree as to where it should be located. Their illnesses and subsequent passing, of course, meant that dream went unfulfilled.’

The memorial group do not wish to inconvenience local residents and businesses, so are going to submit a proposal requesting space within the park.

’Clapham Common is a beautiful greenspace; I had the idea of a garden area which would enhance its beauty as well as preserving the memory of one of its distinguished residents : a man who was one of the greatest actors of British stage and screen, and truly loved living in Clapham Common. While the actual design has not yet been conceived, the tribute garden might contain seating area(s) for meditation/relaxation, a water feature, Jeremy’s beloved geraniums, and the Jeremy Brett Rose. Ideally, Jeremy’s son, writer David Huggins, would be on hand for the opening dedication.’
