Jennifer Lopez
- Profession: Singer/Actress
- Place/Date of Birth: The Bronx, New York , 24 July 1969
Her lawyer, Paul Tweed, has established a reputation for representing US celebrities who take civil actions in the European courts.
With American libel laws perceived to make it tougher for them to sue domestically, many have gone after titles who publish internationally.
Mr Tweed has already represented Britney Spears, Liam Neeson and Van Morrison.
He was granted leave at the Northern Ireland High Court to file the first in a series of lawsuits on behalf of Jennifer.
Although the papers served in Belfast limited her claim to damages within the jurisdiction of Northern Ireland, similar actions are expected to be taken in London, Dublin and Paris.
J-Lo is seeking damages over an article published by the National Enquirer last month entitled Jennifer & Marc Caught Up In Heroin Scandal.
The lawyer has stressed that Jennifer and her husband took grave exception to the totally false and unfounded inferences that they had been involved in, associated with or had knowledge of a serious drug scandal as alleged.
He added: "This story is totally false and unfounded."
J-Lo makes quip about ’Scientology’ - April 16 2007
Jennifer Lopez raised eyebrows during her appearance on American Idol this week, after apparently slipping in to Scientology-speak during a critique, fuelling speculation that she may be flirting with the controversial faith.
When host Ryan Seacrest asked for J-Lo’s thought’s on the judges comments, she replied cryptically, "concentrating on the rightness brings more rightness."
The term "rightness" is known to be a buzzword that was often used by Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard, who wrote manifestos on topics including Rightness and Wrongness and Recognition Of Rightness Of The Being.
Jen also recently revealed that although she was raised Catholic, her father David Lopez "has been a Scientologist for 20 years".
"It’s weird people want to paint it in a negative way," she added, apparently warming to the faith after spending an increasing amount of time with notable Scientologists Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in recent months.
J-Lo, whose new Spanish-language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, is enjoying a second week at number 1 on the Latin billboard chart, also silenced US reports that her marriage is in trouble by turning up at Hollywood hotspot Social with hubby Marc Anthony to celebrate her American Idol appearance.
According to the New York Daily News, Marc was overheard announcing a toast to Jen, in which he described her as "the love of his life".
J-Lo has found ’real relationship’ - April 4 2007
Jennifer Lopez says she has found a perfect match in her husband, singer Marc Anthony.
"Marc and I are good partners," Lopez tells Entertainment Weekly magazine in its April 6 issue.
"We love each other. We want to be the best person we can be for each other. And we work on that. That’s what a real relationship is about to me."
The couple wed in June 2004.
"When we got married, I was like, ’I’ve been working for I don’t know how many years at (a high) level of intensity and exposure," Lopez says. "I’m going to get back to what originally drew me to expressing myself as a creative person."
The 38-year-old singer-actress was previously married to choreographer Cris Judd and waiter Ojani Noa. Anthony, 37, was married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres.
Lopez recently released her first all-Spanish album, "Como Ama una Mujer (How a Woman Loves)," which was mainly produced by Anthony.

The following year however she decided to turn her hand to singing, producing an album, On The 6, which featured breakthrough singles If You Had My Love and Waiting For Tonight. The album turned her in to a household name literally overnight while an appearance alongside George Clooney in Out of Sight established her career as an actress although her future efforts such as The Cell and Gigli (with then fiancé Ben Affleck) saw her acting skills universally panned by critics.
With a change of name came super stardom as, in 2001, JLo was released, featuring hit singles Play, Love Don?t Cost A Thing as well as giving birth to remixes of I?m Real and Ain?t It Funny. JLo?s collaboration with rappers such as Ja Rule gave her a new audience and credibility outside of the pop world, although Jenny From the Block, the lead single from her 2002 album This is Me?Then, saw her rather ridiculed for claiming to be ?from the block? when she was often seen in the world?s finest hotels wearing fur coats costing the yearly wage of most of us.
In between failed marriages (to Cris Judd) and broken engagements (Ben Affleck), getting arrested with P Diddy (another ex) and appearing in films such as Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner, Jennifer managed to turn herself in to a corporation with a range of clothes, perfumes and a production company to her name. She has also turned her hand to modeling, most notably appearing in a fabulous campaign for Louis Vuitton.
More recently the one time diva seems to have settled down, dedicating time to her new husband Marc Antony (the Latino pair married in June 2004) and releasing her latest album Rebirth which, although a commercial flop, signified a new direction for the singer. Despite this disappointment it seems that JLo?s success is set to run and run although whether her future lies in singing, acting or fashion remains to be seen.
