Hugh backs cancer care campaign - Feb 26 2008
Hugh Grant has given his backing to a campaign by a leading charity to increase choice in end of life care.
The Notting Hill star said his mother was cared for at home by a Marie Curie cancer nurse in the last stages of her illness.
"This is about the precious last few days, hours of someone's life," he said.
"My own mother died of cancer and was cared for by Marie Curie nurses - she was allowed to die peacefully surrounded by her family after receiving the very best attention from those helping us to support her.
"Everyone should have that choice."
His remarks came as Marie Curie Cancer Care warned that plans to extend a pioneering nursing scheme to help more terminally ill people die at home are at risk because of a lack of funding.
The charity has said £6 million over the next three years would allow it to extend a project called the delivering choice programme over England.
The warning comes as the charity published the results of a YouGov survey suggesting that around two thirds of people (65%) would want to be cared for at home if they were terminally ill.
But only 14% of these believed home would be where they would get the care they needed.
The delivering choice programme started in Boston, Lincolnshire, and also has six other projects under way in Barnet, north London, Leeds, Tayside in Scotland, south east London, Somerset and Tyneside.
Hugh & Jemima... Back On? Jan 7 2008
Almost a year after their split a MyVillage reader has spotted Hugh Grant and Jemima Goldsmith cosying up in London restaurant Maroush.
The famous couple were thought to be headed for marriage after three years together but split in February 2007, reportedly ’amicably’. Since 2007 however, the ex-lovers have been spotted together on several occasions, fueling rumours that they’re back together or that the announcement of a separation was a ruse to keep the tabloids at bay (we all know how Heinz-man Hugh feels about the paps after all).
Whatever the latest news in the red tops our reader, who spotted Hugh and Jemima in Maroush on January 5 2008, tells us "they looked a happy couple.
I don’t think the split rumours are true...’ Watch this space.
Hugh flies in to support music hall - Dec 6 2007
Hugh Grant jetted in from America to attend a star-studded party to raise awareness of the plight of the world’s oldest surviving grand music hall.
The actor joined guests from the worlds of showbusiness and high society showing their support for Wilton’s Music Hall, which has stood in London’s East End for nearly 150 years.
Among the other attendees at the party were actresses Dame Helen Mirren, Zoe Wanamaker and Jane Asher, hotelier Rocco Forte and the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort.
On its opening in 1858 Wilton’s was described as the "Handsomest Room in Town" and hosted performances by the stars of the day.
But the building has been neglected over the years and is now a "semi-derelict" shell that could be unusable within three years, according to supporters.
In 2004 the Wilton’s Music Hall Trust opened the building to the public, offering performances and guided tours.
But millions of pounds are still needed to restore it to its former glory

Keeping up with the WAGs...

In 1995, Hugh became the scandal of the year by hiring a prostitute, Divine Brown, to perform certain acts in the privacy of his automobile. His girlfriend, Liz Hurley was not amused and although she stuck by him through the scandal they finally called it quits in 2000 after 13 years together. The Divine Brown incident could well have been the making of Hugh Grant though, after this mishap he was cast in many more films and became a British icon here and in the States.
Although many of his films at this time were dubious to say the least, their ratings were bouyed by his popularity and in 1999 he made a real comeback. Notting Hill was a return to form for Grant, made by the same team that first shot to fame with Four Weddings...it confirmed his status and saw his star on the rise again. Following up his success with About A boy and Bridget Jone’s Diary which saw him departing from his usual role as bumbling English fool and made him a whole new type of heartthrob.
He has also starred in Love Actually as the Prime Minister, which saw much speculation as to whether Brits would actually prefer Grant as the leader of their country. Hugh remains a bachelor, despite rumours of a fling with co-star Sandra Bullock, and remains very close friends with Liz Hurley with whom he owns Simian Productions.
