Gordon Ramsay
- Profession: Celebrity chef
- Place/Date of Birth: Johnstone, Scotland, 08 November 1966
The fiery TV chef is on the look-out for the town or city with the worst restaurants, and he already has an inkling of where it will be.
He’s just finished filming the new series of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares for Channel 4, and told the Radio Times: "I now want to expand the whole idea and try and sort out not just individual restaurants, but a whole town."
Asked if he was serious about such a huge undertaking, he replied: "Totally. I want people to nominate the worst eating out town in Britain, and I’ll go and sort it out. It shouldn’t be hard to find - there are plenty of them!
"Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a seaside town, somewhere like Bognor or Skegness. We’ll see."
Ramsay’s comment provoked a strong defence of Skegness’s culinary delights by its first citizen.
Mayor Ken Milner said: "He’s a cheeky sod. I don’t think that’s right at all. We have got a good mixture of different restaurants.
"I had a beautiful Sunday lunch on Sunday. And you can go and get the best fish and chips on the east coast here.
"If he wants to come up and have a look for himself, it would be a pleasure to have him."
Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares begins next week.
My brother needs ’tough love’ says Gordon - Sept 27 2007
Gordon Ramsay said his drug addict younger brother needs "tough love" after being jailed in Bali.
Ronald Ramsay, 39, was jailed for 10 months for heroin possession at the Denpasar District Court in Indonesia on Thursday.
Gordon, 40, told CNN’s Larry King Live that drug use was a choice and his brother needed to take responsibility for his life.
He told Larry King: "I’ve had the most amazing time with my little brother.
"We’ve had undenied love from the whole family in supporting him through his addiction.
"Right now, Larry, it’s tough love. I cannot continue funding. It’s not helping him."
He added: "With his addiction, you know, anyone using drugs anywhere in the world has a choice. It’s not a disease. You start off as a normal individual.
"If you have some form of hurt or detriment or, you know, an emotional problem, then you can’t rely on that to play out your thoughts.
"Once you’ve paid for nearly six rehabs, seen your mother distraught and frustrated and watching her son waste his life with the abuse of drugs, they have to reach an all time rock bottom that’s got no dependency on drugs.
"They’ve got to have that self-belief internally that they’re strong enough to fight it."
Gordon also admitted it was "really tough" raising a family with his hectic schedule. He has four children with wife Tana - Megan, nine, seven-year-old twins Jack and Holly, and Matilda, five.
He added that his friends David and Victoria Beckham were "settling down well and enjoying it and having fun" in LA.
Gordon Ramsay’s brother jailed - Sept 13 2007
Ronnie Ramsay, the younger brother of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, has been jailed for 10 months for heroin possession on Bali island, an Indonesian judge said.
The 39-year-old was also given a £265 fine, said presiding Judge I Wayan Mertha of the Denpasar District Court.
Ronnie Ramsay, who was arrested in February with 100 milligrams of heroin in his pocket during a search outside a supermarket, sat quietly as the ruling was read out. He said he had not yet decided if he would file an appeal.

Following his injury Ramsay signed up for catering college, passing with flying colours and going on to work under legendary chefs Marco Pierre White and Albert Roux. After honing his skills in kitchens around the UK and France, Ramsay went on to become a personal chef for an Australian TV star before flying back to London as part owner of Aubergine. But, in true Ramsay style Gordon had a bust up with the backers of Aubergine, causing him to walk out and take his staff with him to form his eponymous restaurant in Chelsea, the only London eatery to gain three Michelin stars.
He has also opened restaurants in Claridges and the Connaught as well as Petrus in Mayfair, Amaryllis in Glasgow and Verre in Dubai. Ramsay is also a TV celebrity, currently starring in Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares on Channel 4, a reality TV show which gives the Osbournes a run for it’s money in the ******* **** stakes.
