This year, as Edinburgh hosts its 53rd international festival, Edinburgh Nights (from Monday, BBC2) marks its 10th birthday. Naturally, BBC Television has been at the festival almost since it began: the Featuress are full of fabulous clips such as the production of Balanchine’s Ballet Imperial in 1951, Menuhin receiving the freedom of the city in 1965, and Joan Bakewell in a floppy white hat and PVC raincoat in 1970.
