She was also accompanied by a nurse as the terms of her treatment mean she must remain under supervision at all times.

Her father, Mitch, was also by her side.

Dressed in a white skirt and polka dot top, and with her trademark beehive in place, the 24-year-old looked healthier than she has done in recent weeks.

She was admitted to the Capio Nightingale clinic in north London on January 24, days after a video emerged showing her apparently smoking crack cocaine.

Obtaining a US visa would allow Amy to attend the Grammys in Los Angeles on February 10, where she is nominated for six awards.

But the application process will not be simple due to her drugs record. Last October she was arrested and fined in Norway for possession of cannabis.

A spokesman for the star said no decision had been made on whether or not she will attend the awards ceremony.

"The appointment at the US Embassy was made some time ago and was part of process for obtaining a visa. No decision has been made about the Grammys. Amy was accompanied by a nurse as the appointment was under supervision. She has not left rehab and remains under the care of the clinic," the spokesman said.

Amy ’rushed to hospital’ - Feb 1 2008

Amy Winehouse has reportedly been rushed to hospital and put on a drip as she battles to beat her drug demons.

The 24-year-old Back To Black singer was apparently severely dehydrated and taken to a private clinic in London where she was checked in under a false name.

A source told The Sun: "Amy was looking very pale and thin.

"She looked ropey and exhausted. Let’s hope she hasn’t taken a turn for the worse."

Her dad Mitch has previously spoken about how hard Amy is finding rehab.

He said recently: "Amy is very ill and is suffering horrific withdrawal symptoms - shivering and constantly throwing up. Her body is expelling all the rubbish.

On Thursday he added: "Amy is OK. She is making progress but will be in rehab for a long time."

Amy’s beating her demons? - Jan 29 2008
Amy Winehouse is successfully battling her addiction to drugs, according to reports.

The songstress entered The Capio Nightingale Hospital in London last week after a video emerged apparently showing her smoking crack cocaine. Doctors are reportedly delighted with her progress at the clinic.

A source told The Sun: "Although Amy is still taking each day at a time she has done the hardest thing in the world by going into rehab.

"She has been ill and is withdrawing but at least she is sticking with it as she detoxes.

"With her family’s support we are hopeful that there is finally light at the end of the tunnel as she weans herself off drugs.

"She will stay in rehab for as long as it takes even if it is three or four weeks.

"Nobody is saying it will be easy, but things are looking good at the moment and doctors are encouraged."

Biography

Amy Winehouse hails from Osidge Lane, Southgate, although she currently lives in Camden. She is being feted as the new big thing with a voice likened to soul artists of the caliber of American soul queen Erykah Badu.

Amy and her brother Alex were brought up by her mum and grandmother, and fondly remembers ’Growing up in East Finchley was cool.’ She started playing guitar at 12 and listening to jazz. Her acceptance into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School seemed to spell big things for Amy, although she was expelled at 15, apparently for getting her nose pierced. She carried on her studies at an all girls school in Mill Hill, which she hated as there were no fella’s there.

Amy made appearances with the Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced a demo tape of jazz covers that was picked up by Universal/Island Records, and they signed her almost immediately. She released her album Frank in October 2003 and supported Jamie Callum on his national tour. Amy then went on to be nominated for two Brit Awards, British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Artist. Not bad for a girl of 20!
