Rhys proposes to Sienna with perfume? - Feb 28 2008
Rhys Ifans has apparently stepped up his efforts to woo Sienna Miller, by hiding a string of marriage proposals in a set of her favourite perfume.

The Notting Hill star, 39, hid the notes in a full range of Acqua Di Parma Iris Nobile products he bought Sienna to take with her to Los Angeles where she is filming GI Joe, reports the Daily Express.

A source was quoted as saying: "He packed the perfume, soaps and body milk into the bottom of her suitcase. He stuck a marriage proposal at the bottom of each individually wrapped bottle using a secret system of letters and numbers, because she is working on a film where she has to learn to decipher codes."

And Rhys is apparently very pleased with his efforts. "He thinks his plan is ingenious. He spent ages working on it," added the insider.

It's not the first time the Notting Hill star has proposed to 26-year-old Sienna. On her birthday in December, he reportedly popped the question by writing her a poem called Marry This Misfit.

Rhys to land Doctor Who role? - Dec 19 2007
Rhys Ifans could be set to take the keys to the Tardis from Doctor Who’s David Tennant, according to reports that he is next in line to play the Timelord.

David’s co-star Catherine Tate recently let it slip to Jonathan Ross on his Radio 2 show that the next series of the hit BBC One show "may be David’s last" and now it seems Notting Hill actor Rhys is being tipped as the "frontrunner", reports the Daily Express.

A show insider was quoted as saying: "It’s felt that Rhys would bring very different dimensions to the role and would make a more maverick, slightly menacing Doctor, perhaps more in the Tom Baker mould."

But shaggy-haired Rhys, 39, who is currently rumoured to be dating Hollywood starlet Sienna Miller, might have some competition for the role - from Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt.

And there are also reports that Jennifer Saunders could play the Timelord in a special one-off episode.

But a spokeswoman for the show refused to respond to the suggestions, saying: "I’m afraid we don’t comment on future storylines."

Sienna and Rhys engaged? - Nov 8 2007

They have only just come out as couple, but it seems Sienna Miller might have taken her relationship with Rhys Ifans to another level, if rumours of an engagement are to be believed.

The Stardust actress, 25, is said to have been coy when asked by friends if the couple plan to wed, after Rhys apparently proposed with a self-penned ditty, titled Marry This Misfit, reports the Daily Mirror.

A source said: "She fell about laughing, but soon realised Rhys was serious. While she didn’t give him an answer straight away, she’s since been thinking about it more and more."

But friends of the star apparently believe the pair could already be engaged in secret.

One told the paper: "After telling people about Rhys’s strange proposal, Sienna’s been very coy about what her answer was. She’s been fudging the issue with mates and lots of people are starting to think that she may have even said yes."

Biography

Rhys Ifans first hit the big screen in Anthony Hopkins’ directorial debut August (1996), followed by memorable roles in Twin Town (1997) and Dancing at Lughnasa (1998), but reached his widest audience and received the maximum exposure as the unkempt and uninhibited Spike in the 1999 romantic comedy Notting Hill.

Hailing from Cardiff, the tall, thin, blond actor who has worked with some of film’s biggest names including Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts and John Hurt, got his start on television, with several English and Welsh productions to his credit.

Ifans’ break through role occurred starring alongside his real-life younger brother Llyr Evans (Rhys adopted the Welsh spelling of their surname) as sociopath brothers in Twin Town. Presumably setting out to do for Swansea what Trainspotting did for Edinburgh, the less moralizing Twin Town received mixed reviews, with many finding the subversiveness of the film troubling, while others enjoyed its boundless energy and irreverence.

The following year, his supporting role in the Irish drama Dancing at Lughnasa showcased a different side to the actor. As the dreaming free spirit Chris, father of an illegitimate son, Ifans deftly played a much more likable and inspiring role, the handsome and endearing dreamer whose pure-heartedness sparks the sisters’ sense of independence and abandon.

While his previous performances were strong and compelling, they did not capture public attention on a grand scale. It was his role as the unwashed oddball Spike in the well-received romance Notting Hill that really propelled him into the spotlight.

Ifans played the roommate of an unsuccessful bookshop owner (Hugh Grant) linked to a world famous actress (Julia Roberts). Unwashed, unshaven and just plain unbelievable, Ifans was virtually unrecognisable in the role (for which he prepared by going unkempt in real life).

He cleaned himself up for a starring turn in Rancid Aluminum (also 1999), directed by his friend and fello Welsh-man Ed Thomas, a darkly comic crime caper co-starring Joseph Fiennes, Tara Fitzgerald and Sadie Frost.

In the Twenty-First Century he has gone from strength to strength with roles in Kevin and Perry Go Large (2000), The Replacements (2000), The 51st State (2001) and Vanity Fair (2004). He also played Jed Parry in the film version of Ian McEwan’s Enduring Love and the lead role in Danny Deckchair (2003) as Danny Morgan.

In 2005, Ifans picked up a Bafta for his portrayal as Peter Cook in the TV film Not Only But Always. Plus he’s made guest apparences in music videos for both Oasis and Tom Jones.
