Gav delighted after charges dropped - Jan 14 2008
Wales rugby star Gavin Henson has said he is "delighted" that charges over an incident on a train have been dropped.
Charlotte Church's boyfriend was accused of using disorderly behaviour, or threatening abusive or insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on December 2 last year.
But the Crown Prosecution service said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.
In a statement, Gavin said he was pleased to be "vindicated."
"I'm delighted that all the charges against me have been dropped," he said.
"Whilst it is always very difficult to read and hear things about yourself that aren't true, I never had any doubt that I would be vindicated. The decision by the CPS to drop all charges ahead of my scheduled court appearance next week has saved everybody a lot of unnecessary inconvenience.
"The Ospreys have a massive week ahead with crucial matches against Gloucester on Saturday and Bourgoin next weekend.
"I'm looking forward to being able to concentrate solely on what happens on the pitch, and helping the Ospreys to qualify for the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup."
Mike Cuddy, managing director of the Ospreys, added: "Having already carried out our own internal investigation, this comes as no surprise at all, as we were in no doubt whatsoever that Gavin would not face any form of action.
"We're satisfied that this is now the end of the matter and we hope that people will now get behind him and the team."
Henson will not face charges - Jan 11 2008
Charlotte Church’s rugby player boyfriend Gavin Henson will not be prosecuted over claims he behaved rowdily on a train, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced.
The Wales and Ospreys player was due to appear before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday accused of using disorderly behaviour, or threatening abusive or insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on December 2 last year.
A CPS spokesman said: "After careful consideration of the available information from the British Transport Police and the defence solicitors, Graham Evans & Partners, it has been decided that there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.
"The case was referred to Chief Crown Prosecutor for South Wales, Chris Woolley, who is in agreement with the decision.
"Proceedings are ongoing against three other defendants relating to the alleged incident, therefore the CPS will make no further comment at this stage."
The allegations against Henson and his three friends were made after they took a train from London to Cardiff following a rugby match in which his team, the Ospreys, beat Harlequins.
A number of passengers complained about alleged rowdy behaviour on the train, and Henson was one of four men spoken to by British Transport Police officers when the train stopped in Cardiff.
One passenger said the men swore at passengers who asked them to be quiet, and showered beer over each other, and on seats.
An Ospreys spokesman said at the time: "Spirits were high amongst the group given the nature of the victory, and the group apologises for any inconvenience caused to fellow passengers."
Henson lives in Wales with Charlotte and their baby daughter, Ruby.

Born on February 1st 1982 in Bridgend, South Wales, Gavin certainly has the rugby bug in his blood - his father, Alan Henson played prop for Maesteg - and from a young age he showed real promise on the pitch and wowed anyone who saw him play at junior level.
Gavin made his senior debut for Swansea in 2000 and the following year earned his first Wales cap while touring Japan and was named IRB and Wales Young Player of the Year. However, not long after the player Gavin had been playing in the place of returned and his international career was cut short and he concentrated on his place within the Ospreys.
2004 saw him back on the Wales first team and a number of good performances, including a record fourteen conversions in a test against Japan during the Autumn internationals, secured his place as one of Wales’ top players and, following this, he was a shoo in for a place on the 2005 Six Nations team and the Lions tour in the same year.
Gavin’s Six Nations performance, more than helping Wales’ with the series of wins that saw them lift the Grand Slam trophy, has cemented his place in the rugby hall of fame while his relationship with Cardiff singing sensation Charlotte Church has thrown him in to the media spotlight and made him the most recognisable sports star since that English rugby player.now what was his name again?
