What’s it about? You love local, we love local – so how about a summer festival that aims for the atmosphere and sense of community of a village fete? If you managed to make it to the breakthrough 2007 Lounge on the Farm, then you’ll know the score: 160 bands, 6 stages and a cutting edge lineup come together into a very laid-back weekend in the rustic charms of Merton Farm in the Canterbury countryside
This year’s vast lineup include a number of just-on-the-verge-of-underground acts like Black Kids, Art Brut and Dub Pistols Sound System; bands from the 1965 Records catalogue; Holly Golightly & The Brakeoffs; and the wild man of art, wit and poetry Billy Childish. If this isn’t enough for you, there’s also a cavalcade of local talent and breakthrough artists performing this year
The heartbeat of Lounge On The Farm, however, is The Village Green where people come to meet, eat, drink and be merry; enjoying the hospitality provided by an array of concessions from the surrounding community. All produce served, from the hand reared hog roast to the fruit and veg in the Goods Shed Gypsy caravan restaurant, is grown within a 20 mile radius of the festival site. The buy local, eat seasonal policy combines with locally brewed ales and ciders (including a special Rick Stein authored recipe this year) into a thoroughly local, boozy do
Geared to be very much a family friendly event, kids can learn the varied arts of circus tricks, kitemaking and, oddly, beatboxing in the purpose made Little Lounge area. The Music For Change area also incorporates live drumming and storytelling
Kick corporate festivals to the curb, grab some Kentish cider and take to the farm…
Book now if you love: Lounging about, yarping on about the wonders of locally sourced produce and country living, whilst knocking back half a dozen appley ciders in the sun
Don’t miss: Billy Childish, expect a cappella poetry and guitars chugged into oblivion
Want to go? A full weekend fetches £85 (child £40) and Adult Day tickets cost £35 (child £20). Family weekend tickets are £180 and allow entry for 2 adults and 2 children. Book early and get discounted Early Bird prices.
