What’s it about? Mention the prospect of a festival dedicated to ‘underground electronica’ and you’d be forgiven for conjuring up a less-than-wholesome picture. Sweaty tents, a bit of a dodgy crowd and some poor Welsh field left looking like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Happily, BLOC is going to blow that all away.
Not only are revellers treated as part of entry to a decent chalet in Pontin’s Hemsby (just north of Great Yarmouth), but you can avoid the sloppiness of writhing about in a crowded tent in favour of three huge arenas and there’s even a beach just a hop-skip-and-a-drop away. Playing the finest new music by underground electronic artists at their zenith, unlike a lot of British festivals you can grab a beer 24 hours a day and bounce around ‘til 6am every night of the festival
This year’s lineup include artists at the peak of the periphery like Ninja Tune’s Amon Tobin; a collection of artists from Rephlex Records like The Bug, Luke Vibert and more; A Guy Called Gerald; a lineup from Underground Resistance and an appearance by the reformed Red Snapper
If you’re fed up with bloated producers belting out ‘what Miami’s been listening to this week’, check out BLOC for a switched on electronica fest…
Book now if you love: the noises coming out of the true underground, the value of a real bed after a long night
Don’t miss: The Bug, one of the most erratic experimental ragga acts you’ll ever see
Want to go? Tickets cost £110 each and entitle you to a three night stay in a self-catering chalet as well as access to all facilities and three arenas. See www.blocweekend.com for details on how to book
