Unrivalled by a difficulty to locate, this underground alternative music venue and club is one of London’s prime choice cuts of city nightlife, or at least it would be if it was closer to the rest of the action. Its a multi-tier warehouse out in Westbourne park, never venue here without a map since it requires navigating underpasses, needle infested alleyways and dodgy entrances to bring you into a busy, but not overcrowded club.
The place is probably London’s best location for live drum & bass and urban acts and brings into its limelight some very fresh talent on a repeat basis. The venue itself however is often part-closed off and you cannot always get to the best bits. There are great light shows but the drinks are extortionate at £4.00 for a bottle of beer and upwards. The staff are friendly and accommodating and if, like me you find yourself dancing to the thumping bass on couches embedded in raised platforms by the stage in the thicket of the action its totally worth the trip.
Overall its a complete schlapp and a total effort to locate- getting back can also be pretty difficult if you don’t live centrally or westward of the city. The drinks are too expensive and really its only the light-show and the acts that make the place
Went to 12 Acklam Road for the first time last night to see Comedy Sluts. I'm pleased to say the venue was a lot more enjoyable than Simon Amstell's set, where he died on his arse in front of a young friendly, trendy crowd. All the other comedians were great though. The crowd were quite 'toffy' and a lot of Alfie Allen types were strolling around but it was a nice atmosphere and the staff all friendly. Drinks on your card had to be 15+ which hurt the pocket and the head in the morning.Really rammed for a tuesday night and a place I will be keeping an eye on in the future for DJ's and bands.
This place has had it highs and lows over the last 7-10 years and recently i think people have said it was in a fallow. However i am pleased to say that they have started putting on live music acts and combining it with a club afterwards the night i went to they had a combination of unsigned progressive indie music to underground cult scenes which was really cool. Drinks were not too expensive but not as cheap as your local but the cost to get in was 7 for four bands and a club so good vibes lots of dancing and i stayed till the end
I have heard some reviews on how much this place has changed over the last year but I had nothing to compare it to as I had never come here before. However the Mitsubishis who are a band that I really like played a night here called this is sick and the place was rammed then turned into a great club afterwards. A kind of mixed Indie crowd and clubbers really worked here and was nice to see how well it could cross over.
12 Acklam Road?? Neighbourhood whats going on?? We went down hoping for a great night as we used to go regularly to the artisan nights, but its all changedThe djs were moody and playing horrible banging electrotechno stuff or whatever you call it, where's the residents gone?vibe seems to have gone in the place, we had a pretty terrible night, being shoved around by a crowd who seemed more intent on posing than getting down...horrible!
