Bugging device halts Talent filming - Jan 18 2008

Police were called to the audition venue for Britain’s Got Talent after a bugging device was discovered under the judges’ table.

The surveillance equipment had been left in the judges’ room, where Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan embarked on a second day of filming.

Suspicions were aroused when the device caused interference with the sound and film equipment for the recording of the audition process of the hit Saturday night ITV1 show.

When the equipment was found police were called to the venue, the Palace Theatre in Manchester, where fire-eaters, acrobats, dancers and singers are hoping to get the chance to make their name on the show.

There was a 20-minute delay in filming as police investigated.

Cowell said afterwards: "This shows the extent to which people will go to to get inside knowledge on what is going on."

TV bosses believe there is a possibility that a freelance journalist could have planted the device to find out what was being said in the judges’ room.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "While officers were at the theatre investigating this incident, they were asked by theatre management to advise a 45-year-old man that he would be ejected because he had unauthorised access.

"The man’s details were checked and he was arrested in connection with an unconnected speeding offence."

"How could the judges put through some absolutely rubbish acts when there were some very very good ones who didn't even get a showing on tv? Why do we have to sit through weeks of non talented people making a disgrace of what should be a show case for britains unknown talent, for the judges to then finally select some absolute rubbish such as the keyboard player last night. The keyboard player was allowed his full amount of time even though the audience wanted him off. Why wasn't only the quality acts shown in the heats? The judges appear to be on an ego trip certainly they haven't chosen the best available. Can someone explain how ITV can hold five semi finals? Kids at school must be confused when asked to define semi final, in tennis they are the last two matches before the final. "

" I'am writting to complain! The dance group called Flava was not put through to the semi - final on saturday's show. I would like use to tell me why this is? As alot of people are confused as to why this young group of dancers were not put through! Where the other hand this year, there has people that has went through who has absolutely no talent what so ever. There is an elderly man who cannot sing, Another elderly man who cannot play the key-board, not to mention that there is also three groups of magicians in the semi - finals!Its crazy, something has to be done about this group Flava as i think they could be huge. Flava is a young group of dancers who dance extremely well and could be an inspiration to the rest of Britain and giving half a chance could probably be in other country's aswell. The Britains got talent show has let Britain down terribly this year!!! "
