I went to H&C to see Frankie Boyle a couple of nights ago and was really impressed both by the venue and the reasonable prices of drinks and tickets. Despite the upstairs theatre being relatively small, this is a real benefit when seeing stand-up as it creates a great atmosphere and really improves banter between the comic and audience. I would definitely recommend this venue whether going for a gig or just for a drink.
Breathing Corpses - May 08Breathing Corpses is mind-blowing! The writing is fantastic - i can't believe I haven't heard of this play before! The cast were so credible and really did the play justice - there were a couple who were outstanding - violent in parts but so real and uncomfortable to watch because of that. Very spacey feel to the set too in quite a cramped area. Clever. And the music was bang on! Eerie and very contemporary.i would really recommend this show to anyone wanting a great start to the evening.. it starts at 7pm so you must get there early. All over by 8.30 too. Brilliant! Well done to the producer! I'll be looking out for Spoilt Productions Forever next show.
Fun Like Stalingrad - Nov A group of us went to watch Fun Like Stalingrad last night, and everyone came away laughing. Its a must see and has good festive humor. The performances by Angela Bull & Erica Lowe were fantastic, they worked well together in this play. The play touches on difficult subjects that everyone can relate to in a sensitive manner, whilst still being humorous. When booking this play I was rather worried It would just be about political Stalingrad, but this wasnt the case it was a contemporary story of two young girls finding the best way to move forward, with the help of the good old gin.
Fun Like Stalingrad - Nov 2007The opening night of Fun Like Stalingrad kicked off with a bang, nudging the audience gently into the excitement of the festive season as we sat comfortably in Wendy & Lyns front room. This two hand comedy produced by Epsilon Productions brings to light how important a grasp on reality & the strength of friends makes every day in this hard old world of ours easier to bare. With delicate, well timed performances from Angela Bull & Erica Lowe that swung our emotions from crying with laughter to sadness with such ease, it was a joy to watch these young actresses enjoy their job on the stage.
I had my virgin experience of the H&C the other week when I went to watch Russell Brand in the pub's upstairs theatre. The theatre itself is small but cosy and with only about 50 seats, 7 for Russell Brand seemed well worth it! The pub itself was pretty cool. Its more of a late night venue than anything else, with some good music and a really retro jukebox if you want complete control. There's not much food to speak of, some pizzas and paninis, but there's a good range of drinks at decent prices - if any price in London can be called decent!! All in all, I had a good night and will definitely be heading back - if only to see whether Kate Moss turns up again!! Now that was cool!
