This bar sits behind angel in a clown-suit. It has been dressed up to look like a hip and modern Gastro/industrial style scarecrow with a juice bar, stairs so big that the customer needs hiking boots and enormous, clumsy plates with clumps of food upon them.
The decor consists of large unread library volumes and the low hanging lights over the bar look like they’re lampshades were just plucked from a nuclear reactor. It is full of Chelsea-wannabes wearing the most expensive attire they could find in their local charity shops. the big windows however allow the light to pour in and there is little doubt that it is spacious despite being popular.
Overall it is the pub equivalent of the sore thumb in Angel but it has been well hidden and despite the Hawaiian-shirt effect I was very glad to find less popular cider’s on tap, I suppose ever clown has his charms
Great pub. Easily the best in Islington. The food is fantastic, it's all fresh and home-cooked, with loads of veggy and healthy meals. The best bit about the Angelic though is the fact that you never feel intimidated or unsafe. I go to the Angelic at any time of day and with the large surrounding windows, great toilets, the friendly staff and the huge wine list it's perfect for the Islington girl. There are practically always more girls than guys in The Angelic anyway so it's strength in numbers, and I never feel out of place if i'm having a drink on my own or waiting for late friends!Much love to the Angelic!
A real closet feel when packed, but if you are amongst the lucky few who can get a seating, or even better, if you are an overly prepared planner and you book tables in advance, then you will undoubtedly enjoy your night. Not to say that those on their feet wont, but the shoving and pushing in the overly crowded pub can get far too compromising at times.
First impression of the Angelic is that of a big student hang out.Trying out their sunday roast we were truely disappointed. Besides the long wait we were surrounded by a strong whiff from the toilets downstairs, so the whole place smelled like a toilet itself. The food was ok but too expensive for what is was.
Definetely the nicest bar (or 'gastropub' as i believe the kids are calling them nowadays) in islington. I was highly recommended this venue by a work colleague and i have to say i was very impressed. It does get quite busy at times so you're chancing luck a little bit if you turn up and expect to find a table, but the few times i've been back i've been fortunate enough to bag one. The food is surprisingly good value and i suppose you could say reassuringly expensive. Didn't have to wait too long and the barstaff seem very clued in to what they're doing. Nice evening atmosphere as well with candlelit tables, definetely the place to take a lady friend for a romantic evening drink or meal. Keep up the good work!
