Had a take away from this place. Food was above average but nothing special. Found it expensive and portions were on the small side. 4 King Prawns in Tandoori King Prawn Masala (8.95).
The reviews about this restaurant as so completely out of date and so wrong. The restaurant on 3 Penton St is now called Raj Mahal. My family and I eat there about 2 times a week, and I have to say that the food is so delicious, and that the service is so extraordinary, that we keep coming back. That's the kind of restaurant it is, we actually have a relationship with the manager. I have been to plenty of Indian restaurants in Islington, and this one definitely receives a 5 star from us.
This restaurant is aesthetically basic but the food was far beyond its decor. The waiters were polite and keen to serve. Although I had a 'take away' it was relatively cheap @ 16 for a couple of mains, rice, bread and side. I will definitely go back and also recommend it to friends. If 'John Ken (14 March)' wanted a fancy Indian meal he should have gone to the West End and duly paid for it. You'll get more value than you pay for here.

"Would be grateful if you would put a good review in on my behalf for the Curry Raj Indian Restaurant in Penton Street, N1. I visited the restaurant for the first time last night and think it deserves a very good review. The restaurant has an extensive and varied menu and the food was absolutely delicious (I had Chicken Karahi - the best curry I have ever tasted). The service was very courteous and attentive without being intrusive and our meal was finished off nicely with a port on the house! I recommend it to everyone."
