Slim Jim is amazing! I went to Slim’s last friday I was greeted with charming bouncer who’s name I forgot now…. Bar has got great music and the atmosphere was unbelievable. The bartenders were really sexy and friendly. I will definitely come back! You can't afford NOT to!! Xxx Alex
Local late bars are something I rate, Slim Jims seemed an attractive prospect as working unsocial hours and often alone at this time of nite I like to be where there are at least a few other people when I have a nightcap,However"Slim Jims" heavy handed door policy, to people sober and alone is not conducive to this, although it appeared a brash unwelcoming place I was willing to put this aside only to be greeted by,or not, an ignorant brutish pratt from eastern Europe on the door who insisted the bar had closed 2 hours before the advertised closing time, avoid if you don't want to bum out at the end of a great night!
Slim Jim's Liquor Store is a new addition to the already renowned Islington night life. However Slim Jim is coming with a notable difference in that they are London's first 'Dive' bar. Now a 'Dive' Bar is defined as a "cheap, disreputable saloon" somewhere that would most likely have sawdust on the floor and you wouldn't want to eat their steak and chips, or anything. Luckily Slim Jim's is not offering any food and is keeping true to their claims.
Walking in, we are met with a dark mixture of red light and some faint glow of neon. The bar is long and narrow with some red leather casino style bar stools. The feel to the place conjures up Hunter S. Thompson, desert biker bar incredibly well considering its location in hip Islington. The bar has a selection of beers on tap and also an incredibly worldly selection of bottled beers ranging from Bud to Becks and Morreti to Kirin. I made myself comfortable and asked the bartender to ladle me out one of their special cocktails. We started off on the signature Slim Jim's cocktail, The Slim Jim. I was immediately impressed as they where using Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey, an excellent and often hard to find whiskey, as the base spirit. This mixed with creme de figue, maple syrup and orange bitters. The Slim Jim was good, but a touch on the sweet side. Next we went for the Slim Jane, the more feminine signature beverage. This consisted of rose vodka, peach schnapps, lemon juice and vanilla syrup. The Slim Jane blew me away! It had a fantastic aromatic taste and the balance of the lemon, vanilla and rose was just a great combination. Over the next coming weeks the bartender explained that they would be adding more of these Slim Jim's patented cocktails to the list. So from my brief excursion into this bar I am definitely ready to make a more in-depth visit, perhaps hiding out from the daylight for a good long stretch.
