Troy Bar is a small back street almost grungy not slick kind of bar. The music policy ranges from reggae and salsa the owners try to keep away from the mainstream. The bar has a warm, very laid back vibe and a good selection of bottled beers. Entry is free and its open late.
It's a great friendly place to chill, watch some really talented artists and eat a fantastic meal!!!If you too are affected by the credit crunch then going to Troy's is a great way to eat, drink and be entertained for a reasonable cheap price.
I was introduced to the bar by the base player, the one and only "Rick James" what a namesake, but this youth is the business. My first visit was when the Friday evening sessions ( and that is what it is!!), ran from 8pm to to 4am in the morning. It is a no frills chilled out atmosphere, somewhere where you go and listen full hearted emotive sounds from a group of extremely talented but yet unherald performers. Would I go back, each and anytime I get the chance, my one bear bug is the fact that I live far away and so have to drive there. No pretence at this venue just simply sweet relaxing vibes. Check it out!!!
I had the pleasure of going down there last week and was amazed at what I saw. The romantic aroma of the red lights painted a prolific silhouette of the artists and so gave their performances an authentic vintage feel. Were it not for the reminder of the modern a/c and the drink prices, I would have truly believed that I was in a place that the millennium forgot. Rather then listening to music performed by unoriginal and talentless individuals, the singers at Troy Bar represented what music was back in the soul days pure and emotion filled. Most noticeable stand out performances was by Patrick Alan and definite rising star, Sabrina, who performed an improvised set and from an artist called Jnay. In 2003, Jnay was the winner of the MOBO unsigned award and performed an original song only accompanied by his guitar that had me well and truly astounded. But again he is one of the many talents on show in what I can only say must be an A&R heaven. So check it out! Words by Boywonder Ent http://www.boywonderent.blogspot.com
If you love jazz music, good food and cheap drink, Troy Bar on a Friday night is the place to be. Whilst its bar area is slightly run down, you will certainly forget about this when you experience it fantastic ambiance and as the audience share their talents with you by getting on stage singing beautiful jazz music or reading out poetry. This is all woven together with the witty hosts who keeps the mood chilled. A night at Troy will truly shows what anyone what a talented city we live in. Beware - Pop idol it certainly is not; the audience / performers are there to share the love of music with you. Join them for a memorable night of singing, drinking and eatting a scumcious curry. My night out to Troy Bar was certainly one of the most memorable nights for - one that I can't wait to repeat again and again.
had a great time actually - especially liked gideon schneider and corinne - the mixing on the sound wasn't so good, but gideon had a great vibe and stage presence and catchy tunes and corinne has a lovely voice and also catchy tunes. but they should improve the sound a bit though.
"An uplifting and joyful night in a very warm environment, and newcomers like me were very welcome, also Fridays are Great as Live jazz with "Word of Mouth" What more can I say, Keep up the good work"
