a squalid over priced pit.
Giving Casa Blue a rating of 0.5 is too generous. Reviewers here are getting boho chic confused with pure filth. Every surface was sticky and stained and no amount of incense sticks could cover the stench of vomit and rising damp. Fair enough the staff were very friendly but this did nothing to make up for the overpriced drinks and the fact that there seemed to be no heating on in the venue...it was freezing! To top it all off when we tried to pay for our overpriced drinks we were told that our scottish notes were not acceptable, despite obviously being legal British tender. Would never go back and would certainly never recommend it.
Awesome little bar. I was in there for NYE and will definitely go down as the best I've had. Music was a brilliant mix of techy and minimal house and some classics that fit right in. Atmosphere and decor were so mad and eclectic but made for a great evening. Toilets... well yep toliets don't really work old-skool, but somehow even these created atmosphere.
Propping up the most northerly ends of brick lane is casa blue. Its a bohemian cocktail bar run on a skeleton staff of one barman one doorman and two so called cocktail waitresses who just seem like young drunk female members of the crowd who keep asking you if you want mojitos well into the early hours of the morning.
The venue gets overcrowded at around midnight with drinks trying to navigate their plastic cups around old velvet sofas, large dangerous candles and pictures and sculptures about the cramped enclosure designed for shock and discussion. The bar is made up of two small rooms divided by a curtain and is softly lit like an old persons front room within.
The toilets situated down the stairs are like a scene worse than that of the film ’saw’ filth vandalism and terror appear in this torture chambers of a facility. The good points to make are the strength of the cocktails although for seven odd pounds each you would expect your glass to be made of glass. There are also fish bowls available and later in the evening the waiting service can seem quite appealing.
Overall as the evening wears on you get a good atmospheric vibe from the place it has a lot more character than most places and even dressed in army attire the doorman was friendly about conviscating our plastic weapons.
This place is no way dirty and overpriced....it will be hard to find a bar that serves beer for much cheaper, after all you are in London! I would agree the toilets leave alot to be desired but apart from that it's probabaly one of the best places I have been to in London and I totally agree with the 15 or so reviews that the staff are incredibly friendly and add alot to the overall experience. Two thumbs up for a fun night out! oh and the music is a fusion of oldies but goodies mixed with recent tunes. Check it out, you won't be dissapointed.
