This pub is under new management. It has an outside caterign firm who run the kitchen nd mnus, making this a great value for money pub eatery!!! Childrens menu alos. Outside seating areas. Friendly staff. Great weekend entertainment. This is becoming one of my very fave paces to go at weekends and for lunchbreaks from work!!! It is right next to the bus stop for the 38, 73 and 341 routes so very accessible and safe to get buses home if you live oputside N1 area!! Oh, and the doorman who works at the weekend is a kind bloke with a great sense of humour. Have a right laugh every time!!!
Is it really for sale? I have to agree that the landlady is not the most approachable person in the worldI can really see the difference in the place, and understand what a lot of you are saying, but I dont agree that she'll be going anywhere soon. Yes she may have got rid of all the regulars, but have you been in there on a Saturday night recently?I turned up with my buddies a few saturday's ago and couldn't get in coz they were full to capacity. It seems shes made a proper investment in named DJs and its starting to pay off.Ok so its quiet during the week (wasn't it always?) but if shes filling it to capacity every saturday night with young people spending twice as much as the old regulars then i think her takings have probably sky rocketed
At last there is some light at the end of the tunnel, The kings head is up for sale so hopefully the new owners will replace the managers that are there are the moment and bring the pub back to wha it once was, a ood ocal pub, for the whole family to enjoy, a place where you can enjoy the football, and not get barred for swearing (we all do it during a match, its only natural). I'm not saying that the couple running it are not nice people, but just wrong for this pub
The pub on city road is called the royal star, you will get a warm and friendly welcome, unlike the owners of the kings head. Not only has it lost its charm as a football pub, it had all over lost its charm. Every time we are in there, we seem to get dirty disaproving looks, we are not rowdy or rode but enjoy a good time. At last count around 25 regulars have been barred for no apparent reason, maybe they did not agree with the stict christian views of the landlady. well if its that strict, why run a pub? The bar staff change daily they can never get a drink right anyway, sign the pettition that will be sent to the brewery very soon.
It's still not a bad place to pop in for the odd pint or two but I do agree it certainly has lost a lot of its appeal as a footie pub. No doubt i will still visit just maybe not as often. On a side note: I heard the previous owners have now got a pub in the old street area, anyone know what's it called?
