Speaking to my fellow Hoxtonites the words still echo,” What!! You are gonna eat there?” Not a venue held in high regards by the masses, we nevertheless head down to sample Shish. Comfortably poised over their cocktail menu we order their Chinese Lychee & Rose Martini and Blackcurrant Caipirinha. With their no-fuss interior and watered down retro wall prints, Shish’s bar is cavernous hotspot.
Savouring the fruitful outbursts of our chosen cocktails, we hit our dry spot with a Coconut Daiquiri – a sugary concoction of coconut, Havanna club, fresh lime juice and sugar cane syrup alongside a Lycee Bellini. Whether a champagne infusion or a slick back Mango Mule, the price tag remains (roughly) £7 per glass but worth every sip.
Flushed with alcohol we head to their restaurant. Grazing at their mezze, we tackle their Spinach Borek, Hummus, Red Pepper & Feta and Halloumi Melt. Light on the taste buds, the Halloumi Melt toppled our selection. Our grilled skewer of Chicken chunks laid in Satay and King Prawns marinated with herbs arrives cushioned with cous cous. But sadly the chicken was amiss and the king prawns were deceiving in portion. Though their dessert, a Warm Chocolate Cake served with Ice cream sprinkled with sugar granules tickled our sweet palate, it was their drink menu that over ruled, placing Shish as a refined drinkery rather than a diner.
Can't believe the reviews on this site!! Great service, healthy food, fantastic atmosphere! There's a bar downstairs for chic cocktails afterwards and a posh-o type restaurant upstairs for those who don't want to eat with the hoi polloi.. What more could you ask for? There are loyalty cards and they promise to get you in and out in your lunch hour! My new mid-work // after-work hangout!
I think that Shish is very Overrated and the food is quite tasteless. It seems to be about location for these guys and thats why it drags in the punters. I gave them 2 goes and was not impressed on both occasions.

What started off life as a northwest London kebab shop (albeit posh) is now a hoxton/ditch institution. Upstairs offers a more formal canteen style dining area whilst downstairs has a relaxed bar feel. Choose from a delicious and unusual selection of kebabs (vegetarians fear not all are catered for here) or take your pick from the tapas style menu. Fantastic cocktails alcoholic or not.
