Had a wondeful time at this lovely little local restaurant. Service was really friendly & informative. The food was very tasty. We had a wonderful goats cheese souffle with beetroot coulis, a great combination and some mussels to start. The monkfish was cooked to perfection amd the lamb shank just so tender. We followed with rhubarb crumble of the old school variety and a light and refreshing panacotta.
The wine list is really well thought out and priced well. Great atmosphere. Great find will definitely return and would recomend highly.
Located on Broadhurst Gardens, just round the corner from West End Lane, this restaraunt surprises with a friendly, intimate atmosphere and attractive interior decor.
The food was delicious. The mussells I had as starter were as well cooked in garlic and cream as any I have had anywhere. My friend and I both had the fish stew as main course which was cooked with fresh ingredients and tasted fabulous.
Staff were attentive and friendly. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
Booked this very local restaurant on the basis of intrigue re: the attractive and welcoming decor from the street but more importantly, the excellent reviews here and elsewhere on the net. We were disappointed I'm sorry to say.
Service was dire. Admittedly it was a busy night, but if you can't cope then you must turn business away. It was quiet when we arrived, and we were seated in a dreadful position and politely enquired if there were any alternatives - to which we were met by a brusque and facetious response from the front of house which left us shocked and affronted.
The food was tasty, simple and well cooked. However gaps exceeding 30 minutes between courses and having to repeatedly get up to serve ourselves our wine, despite repeated attempts at calling over service was beyond a joke.
The toilets are well kept, although you have to walk through the downstairs private dining room to get to them - a bit of a low if you'd hired out the room for friends and have customers traipsing through all night and queueing in your room! (Only one out of two loos were functioning). It's a definite no-no for elderly/disabled guests.
Overall, despite the food, which is central to success, admittedly, I somehow feel that The Green Room will really have to raise its game if it is to survive. Will I go back? I don't really want to face the unfriendly service and rude front of house again, so sadly - and regrettably - it's a no.
This restaurant is of the kind that everyone wishes they had in their local area. Small, welcoming, with fabulous food, and conceived of an executed by people who really care about what they do and how they do it.
On my first visit, I fell in love with the place and know that it will not be the last time I eat there; made all the more certain by the fact that they know how to treat children. My seven year old daughter was given the option of a number of pared down meals from the standard menu. They encouraged her to ask questions and offered to show her the kitchen and talk to the Chef. I was really impressed with this attitude to the up and coming generation of restaurant goers!
The passion the staff showed for their restaurant was endearing, they took time to explain the dishes and offer advice, and even offered to find the recipe for their home made bread, which I have to tell you was the best bread I have ever tasted!
The Green Room serves European food with a French flavour. My mussels were very good as was the very very chocolatey tart I had for dessert. My daughter ate every last bit of her pasta and said it was almost as good as mine (high praise indeed!). I have to say it was really a lovely night out, made so as much by the really lovely owners and chef as it was by the food - both were fabulous! If you live in the area, you'd be a fool not to go, and if you don't then you should travel!
