The Blue anchor is a favourite of mine when a come for a walk along the river. The staff are always friendly asking how my day has been. I have eaten here several times and the food is a high quality, good pub food. My husband is a real ale man and he says there ale is at the top while there wine selection is good too.
I always like my return visits
Great location on the river front looks warm and inviting with candles lit in the window. Not inviting when inside... staff miserable and not welcoming .We asked when we could order food and was told a curt not till 6 and walked away. We were meeting up with 8 friends who all wanted to eat and they were all treated the same we had to wait till one minuite past 6.....should have walked out but it was a cold night and didn't want to dampen the mood any more. The food was ok but just plonked on table.Seems this place doesn't have to try because of it's location.Would not go again.
"The Blue Anchor seems to be one of the favourite spots in Hammersmith during the summer months. Just by the river, The Blue Anchor provides a great place to drink and relax in the sunshine with its benches outside. There is always a crowd on a sunny day and it can be hard to find a place to sit. Most people seem to be oblivious to this and will happily stand around or sit on the wall. The boat club is just next door which means that there are a lot of rowers drinking here. Due to the vast amount of young people in their 20s, it can be difficult to get served promptly. The beverage of choice seems to be lager and with one or two bar staff at all times, and a queue spilling out of the pub onto the pavement, it can take a while to get your drinks in. But that aside, the atmosphere is great, it is a good place to go and meet new people and easy to fall into conversation with the people sitting next to you. In the winter, however, it is a completely different story. The Blue Anchor is definitely a summer pub. The bubbly crowd leaves again as soon as the weather gets colder and does not come flying back until the next spring."
