Following recent discussions about at a certain Mr A James (see wall posts) I was wondering to delicacies would you try? What is the weirdest food you have heard of?

Take for example casu marzu- that is maggot cheese to you and me. Although outlawed due to heath reasons, casu marzu is a traditional sheep cheese from Sardinia which is infested with insect larvae. They can even jump out of the cheese! If the maggots are not moving, then it has become too toxic. Translated it literally means 'rotten cheese'.

Or how about washing your rotten cheese with army worm wine as made my American Ray Reistad. Apparently he got the idea from a co-worker who said his grandfather used to make it 'back in the old days'. The worm - if you're interested is the forest tent caterpillar and has been compare to pinot grigio or white boudeaux.

Over in Iceland, hakarl or fermented shark is the delicacy there. Apparently it's an aquired taste and most Icelanders never eat it.

i like to think that i'm adventurous when it comes to food, but i was sick last time i ate kidneys, so perhaps my self expectations don't really match my reality :)

I know what I like, but am willing to try most things. Had I been presented with thecasu marzu, I think I would have passed. While over in Oz, I tried kangeroo pie in the outback, and sampled crocodile. Not much of a fan of the pie, and found the croc to be too chewy. Maybe it was the way it was cooked?
