Synopsis

A display of photographs featuring fifty vintage and modern photographs by West African photographer Kelta. Kelta portrays Bamako society during its era of transition from a cosmopolitan French colony to an independent capital. The majority of the portraits were taken in his studio, setup in 1948, behind the Bamako prison. Clients travelled from all over the surrounding areas, sometimes hundreds a day, to have their photographs taken.
